IMHO Syphon Filter is the best game I've ever played on the PSX. This game is a

It is deep and addicting. There is nothing like using the night vision sniper
rifle, aiming between the eyes of any bad guy, then squeeze the trigger as the
blood and brain goo splatter out the back of bad guy's head, and the goo still
having heat in it, is quite visible as it leaves his head. hehehehe

If you are into gaming with plenty of fire power at
your disposal, this game is for you. It is basically a
"run & gun" game with some strategy elements
inserted here and there. The coolest feature I liked
about the game was the sniper mode. There is
nothing like sniping an unsuspecting "baddie"
from a safe distance! I definately recommend buying
this game.

You failed to mention the down point of the check points. If you die before
reaching a check point you start either back at the last check point or the
beginning of the level and this can be upto 10-15 minutes of work to redo.

Oh come on, we all die...
However, in reply to the checkpoint problem, I think it's a good idea.
To try to promote difficulty, they decided not to make instant respawn
in the position you died. So considering that, they could either do
checkpoints, or you must start at the beginning each time. Personally, I
like a hard game every now and then, I'm very pleased with the system.

Aside from being a very good game, SF also features the finest weapon found
in ANY videogame, period: the taser. Infinite "ammo," infinite range, kills
within 2-3 seconds, incapacitates in 1-2, auto-targets, and sets enemies
on fire. Except for the stages where the enemies wear armor, you can get through
most of the game with just the taser. Yum.
