I was just wondering if any gamers that had only played Final Fantasy 7 and/or
8 had purchased Final Fantasy Anthology and what their thought on the old-style
Final Fantasy were.

Just curious

Stez staggered into alt.games.video.sony-playstation, ordered a pint and
whispered to the barman...

If we actually get it over here, I'll snap it up. Looks like an import
though - is it out in the US yet?

It sure is (out in the US now) and I love it. But, I've also played US
2 and 3 on the SNES, so I guess I can't really answer the original
question.

I got FF Anthology a few days ago. Kick ass! Great Storyline, considering this
was for Super Famicon [SNES]. Both are preety easy considering todays RPGs, but
stil a fun play. Most places sell it for $30-35, so go get it now!

If your finding ff5 too easy you either haven't played it long enough or have
taken a lot of time to level up.

I've only gotten as far as Waltz Castle, on the save point, and have yet to
face the boss. Should i be worried if my guys are at level 10-11?

Although I haven't got Anthology (yet), I've played every FF game
available in North America, except FF1 and FF5, and I think that the old ones
are better. IMHO, both FF7 and FF8 are way too easy. I also prefer the
weapons/armour system from 4, and 4 also has my favourite magic sysytem,
although I also liked the weapons/armour system from 6, and the magic
system from 8.

I'd like FF9 to be a direct sequel to 4, which left Kain out on a
mountain top, about to set out on a journey to redeem himself.

I couldn't agree more. Finally, someone who likes FF4 as much as I do. I
really hate it that I lost my copy of it... I liked FF4 because of the awesome
story, the awesome music, the REALLY awesome ending, you could have 5
characters at once, and the summons were short and sweet (and limited to one
character). The villians were great, and you could care about the characters.
ALL of them.

I like the Anthology since it's nice to return to the old-school style. The
houses in those games were amazingly detailed by the time FFVI (FFIII) came
around. I still don't understand why Square scrapped the old format. I think
they should create a whole new series with a whole new name and design the
games like FFIII.

That would be nice. I really hope they are working on another FF Tatics game.
It reminded me of the old FF games in way with the nicely done sprites. I also
hope that Chrono Trigger does get re-released here...I never got to finish mine
on the SNES cuz some jerk stole it. :P
