Anyone know anything about the plug mod chips? Do they work at all?
Reliable? Are they as good as the internal ones?

well, I ordered one from www.plugmod.com It arrived quickly. But. I didn't
know that playstations have different kinds of I/O ports on them to plug
stuff into. So I got this plug-mod chip sitting here that has a "paralell
I/O" plug on it. And my playstation has a "serial I/O" on it. So I spent a
chunk of money. and I can't use the mod chip. The web site said nothing
about kinds of ports. And I've gotten no response from e-mailing their
support address. So be very careful you know what you're ordering. I've
been leaving posts here too, asking if there's some kind of adapter so I can
use this thing. No respnses yet. So i got burnt. -Chrys

Even if you have the port, plugmods are unreliable. And when they do work
out, you have to do the swap thing. Internals are way better: A one-time
installation, then no more hassle! They've even got a 6-wire internal that
works on PSone without swapping!
