Here's the official software and hardware charts for the week of August
4th-10th in Japan. The GameCube has gone from 12 thousand console sales last
week to about double that this week as Square-Enix's GameCube-exclusive RPG
is released. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is a tremendous success --
appearing on the charts for only three days it has sold 194,000 units. The
only title that beat it out is the always-popular Konami soccer game Winning
Eleven 7 that was released earlier in the week. Four other GBA titles and
Kirby's Air Ride fill up the top ten.

1. Playstation 2 -- 46,300 / 1,825,700
2. Game Boy Advance SP -- 44,500 / 1,436,000
3. GameCube -- 23,800 / 408,500
4. Game Boy Advance -- 14,700 / 985,700
5. Playstation -- 800 / 51,300
6. Xbox -- 580 / 70,500

1. PS2 World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 -- 642,400 / 642,400
2. GCN Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles -- 194,100 / 194,100
3. PS2 Salmon Knight 3 156,300 / 156,300
4. GBA Super Robot Great War D -- 113,600 / 113,600
5. GBA Pokémon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire -- 38,400 / 77,800
6. GBA The Masters -- 35,800 / 35,800
7. PS2 Live Powerful Pro Baseball 10 -- 31,300 / 392,700
8. PS2 Gundam Seed -- 29,400 / 165,900
9. GBA Super Mario Advance 4 -- 28,500 / 248,000
10. GCN Kirby's Air Ride -- 27,700 / 208,200

20 or 2, doesn't matter, no company is perfect, MS being a great example
with XP, a OS that I will never even consider installing.

Sega a good example as well. But with the issue with Japan, anyone would
tell you any non-Japanese based company will fail, no matter how many
trillions of Yen is thrown in, or how many developers are bought out, or
take overs.

MS is kicking ass in the gaming industry and last I checked Sony is a
Japanese company. They don't seem to be failing in the industry.

Boy, the Japanese seem to flock to crap games don't they? I'm
interested to see Crystal Chronicles and, well, that's about it. Maybe
Mario Advance 4 as a nostalgic kick. The rest of the list is pretty
much crap.

Beh, fuck Japan. Xbox had a shaky start in the US and Europe, but it's doing
quite well now. Nintendo has all kinds of sales in Japan and their console
sales overall suck ass worldwide. MS is doing shitty in Japan, but well
overall.

Amazing how a the Xbox that has sold about 10 million worldwide is
doing "well overall", but the Gamecube that has about 10 million sales
"suck ass worldwide".

Face it, Nintendo and Xbox are neck-a-neck. Europe is ahead for Xbox,
Japan for Gamecube. By all accounts USA is pretty close for the two.

Most Overused reason #1

Microsoft is hardly an unknown in the world...and they've been spending
billions on advertising to get their name out. Sony did very well in their
first console if I remember (so did Nintendo). Frankly, experience doesn't
have anything to do with success. Advertising does.

Nintendo advertises a ton. Your argument blows. Nintendo has tons of
experience and are still getting their ass handed to them by Sony, and being
beaten by a console upstart. That qualifies as embarrassing.

Oh yeah, I forgot, Nintendo has a $20 billion a year monopoly they can use
to cover huge losses in other areas of the company.

Did you know that MS charged off $9 billion in 2001 & 2002 due to bad
investments in the telecom industry? Yes, NINE BILLION DOLLARS. They still
made so much money it was barely noticed. The XBox losses are nothing to
them in comparison - nothing. Yet they would put Nintendo into a sea of red
ink, without question.

I mean, give me a break. Are there still people out there who don't have a
clue about how big MS is, and what an incredible cash cow the Windows
monopoly is?
