Will there be a Matrix video game?:
Hopefully yes. If things work out the way they want them to, the video game
will be released when the next movie comes out and it will actually have
something to do with the movie.
Looking a little further down:
The Matrix 2
Release Date: Christmas, 2002 (moved back six months form May/June, 2002; as
per an announcement by Joel Silver at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards)
So do you SERIOUSLY think somebody is going to make a N64 game to release
Christmas 2002? That's a full year after Gamecube's launch.

Many years ago, I worked for a company developing games on the Amiga,
knowing at the time that the Amiga CD32 was being developed.
We had planned to convert the game to CD32 and pre-developed most of the
games graphics, music and sound etc on the good old Amiga.
The game was called 'Orbital' BTW and was Bust-A-Move style game. Its still
available as Shareware.
I was responsible for graphics, music, sound and beta testing.
It would make sense for the company behind the Matrix game, knowing that
Gamecube would be avialable at the time of the Matrix II release to start
developing using N64 technology. It's a lot easier to tweak the final
product ready for the new technology. And most of the work like graphics,
sound and music can be done.

Well, how about the fact that if they are a Gamecube developer they already
should have a Gamecube dev kit?

#1. Kind of a bummer CD32 never saw the light of day, eh?
#2. CD32 was supposed to be basically a set-top A500, if I remember.

I doubt the N64 is a viable pre-development platform for Gamecube, they seem
radically different.
