Sega Master System
I never actually owned one of these, but I played a few games on it, I only
rememebr two of them though, so....
The Snail Game - When you turn on the Master System with no game inserted,
you get a snail maze game, It's one of only two games I rememeber for this
system, so I'm going to have to assume it was good.
Shinobi - Fight through a bunch of enemies to play a cool Ninja Star
throwing match. I think the first section was an overhead Commando style
game, maybe I should have looked for some emulators or something before
this.
Nintendo Entertainment System
The Best console ever built. If anyone claims the SNES was better tell them
they are wrong, spit in thier face, then walk away. The SNES was nothing
but an upgraded version of the NES with less crack induced games. And Game
Boy isn't a console.
River City Ransom - Take your favorite side scrolling fighting game, give it
easy to remember simple moves, make the action fast paced and constant,
throw in a dozen gangs and thier respective leaders, add a dash of cheezy
plot, mix with a touch of RPG element and puree. Then you have a great
game, THE great game. Run round, beat the shit out of gang memebers for
cash to buy upgrades so you can beat the shit out of even tougher gang
memebers. Trek across the city to face the boss and rescue Ryan's (player
2, the blue one) girlfriend so she can go shopping. Pointlessly violent all
the way.
Contra - Use the Konami Code, grab a buddy then play through this game over
and over. It's so simple so it's so addicting. If you have a turbo
controller (I would reccomend the NES advantage, the perfect controller) you
can just hold in fire and run around shooting shit. Unfortunately the
levels loose variety halfway through the game, they start out changing
between side/rooms/upward scrolling levels, thin the last half is all side
scrolling. Also along with this I reccomend Life Force for basically the
same reason as Contra, it's a fun game to play through with a buddy. "Buddy
Game" honorable mentions: Bubble Bobble, whacked out bubble blowing dragon
fun!;
Tecmo Super Bowl - The ONLY football game worht playing period. Mostly
because it's so easy and fun to womp the computer 99-0 repeatedly. Here's a
hint, for quick and easy quarterback sacks, pick the lower second row
lineman and run right through next to the center, next thing you know, the
CPU will be 4th and 50.
Bionic Commando - Quite a difficult game actually, plus the grappling arm is
fun to use. It must weigh a lot though since uh, you can't jump in this
game.Quite a bit of veriety, and a decent plot (for NES) to boot.
Metal Gear - You know those previous ops in Metal Gear Solid, they actually
happened! You know all that talk about The Ninja and Snake once fighting in
a minefield? That happened too!, but the Minefield thing was in Metal Gear
2, or was it Snakes Revenge? Who cares, neither was as good as the first.
Basically take MGS and subtract the 'helpful clues' given during the
dialogue sequences. in other words, make it harder. There you have Metal
Gear. Also you'll get to witness the classic line "Uh oh, the truck have
started to move!"
Blaster Master - Another platform game yes, but this one has a nice twist,
you see in this one you get to drive Sophia III, the toughest tank around
(next to Bonaparte that is, two Ramen points to anyone who identifies
Bonaparte the tank not the French guy). Unfortunately sometimes you have to
jump out and walk around as Jason the midgit with the big head, but the
overhead dungeons aren't really that bad. Plus if you pause the game while
attacking some boses you will still damage them. If you can't find the
original (I actually have two copies of this game incase one breaks I like
it so much) there was a Game Boy game released recently called Blaster
Master: Enemy Below that is nearly identical to the original in gameplay.
But good lick finding the Game Boy game, I've only ever seen one copy at a
Walmart, and I bought it.
Shadowgate and Deja Vu (and other similer games) - I mention this group,
that is games where you wanter around solving puzzles with items you
collect, similar to the graphical Zork games in several ways, anyway I
mention them because, they are mostly fun to wander around and see just how
many ways you can kill yourself. Try setting yourself on fire with the
torches in Shadowgate, be sure to do it repeatedly, you get different
reactions each time, or stab yourself, or try to hit the troll guarding the
bridge, or try to shoot the wrong people in Deja Vu, the possibilities are
almost endless! Oh what fun.
Mega Man 3 - A lot of people argue over the best Mega Man game. Usually
it's between Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 2. I think really most of the Mega Man
2 supporting people are just confusing the two games and really mean the
3rd game. Let's see, MM2 added the 8 boss feature and uh... well that's
about it. MM3 added Rush, Mega's loyal dog, MM3 added Proto Man, Mega's not
so loyal brother, MM3 added the slide technique, a feature since it's
creation, MM3 also had twice the robot masters through the use of Doc
Robots, which also means Mega Man 3 had quite a few more levels than the
average Mega Man game. all in all Mega Man 3 is clearly superior. Also
don't try to suggest these things were created in MM2 either, I probably
logged 100s of hours playing this game, and many times more than that
drawing characters from it and scruitinizing issue 20 of Nintendo Power over
it (Issue 20 is the Mega Man 3 issue, also the first regular issue to have
the square binding instad of the stables in the center binding). anyway,
MM3 rocks.
Super Mario Brothers 3 - The marketing Blitz game of it's time, I vaguely
rememebr something about this game being the all time best selling NES
title. Two player cooperative (or compeditive depending on how you look at
it) play, tones of different "suits" for Mario, loatd of levels, non linear
play through the use of a world map, the Koopa Kids (The Mario 3 TV names
were better then the Game names BTW, for a useless trivia sort of thing),
all this and more, to make a reat game. Plus we all et to wonder how that
chick in the Wizard knew all the secrets to the "secret new never before
seen game". Things like the Warp whistle, one of the hardest to get
secrets.
Honerable Mention: Legend of Zelda, Excitebike, snake Rattle and Roll, and
Ultima : Exodus
That's al for now, say tuned for SNES/Genesis next, because we don't
awknowledge Atari after the 7800. Or because we haven't played Jaguar at

Blaster Master Boy isn't a port of the original. its an entirely different

Dragon Warrior 3....the game that Final Fantasy 5 stole the job system from.
Crystalis
Might and Magic- an even better port than the PC version!
Ultima: Quest of the Avatar- ditto
Legend of Zelda 2
Battle of Olympus- a surprisingly good RPG, based on Ancient Greek Mythology

Not "Blaster Master Boy", "Blaster Master: Enemy Below".

Shoot, I thought i put the image of the box up there too, looks like just
this screen shot. anyway, It's newer, I think it came out in 2000, like I
said, I've only ever seen one copy of it, and it seems to have almost zero
press for it. Did you know there is going ot be a PSX Blaster Master game
called "Blaster Master: Blasting Again" as well?
Anyway BM:EB is an original game with new levels and bosses but for the most
part it's identical tot he original in almost every other way.

Bah, Maybe Castlevania 2, but I don't consider RPGs usually to even qualify
for best of anything since long term replay is usally a key factor for my
deciding good games and generally RPGs are one shot deals for replay. Once
the story is ruined it's not much more than a slow numbers game usually.
basically what I'm saying is I play RPGs for the story not for the repeated
boring slow battles and pointless wandering and talking to loosers (one
reason Ultima Exodus is good is because you can fight the towns people,
battles with helpless NPCs score buku bonus points for all games that
incorperate such actions). As for Castlevania1 and 3, 2 seemed better then
1 for some reason and I recall 3 had crappy graphics and stages instead of
free roaming like 2. Or maybe I havn't played any of them enough?

I have a 2600 and a 7800, luckily for reasons of space the 7800 plays 2600
games. Though Joysticks suck, I use a Genesis controller.

Good God yes. I love that game! It got pretty damn hard, especially
some of those trap-infested dungeons. Also noteworthy was the fact that
the battles were not random (you could see the enemies on the map)
and the fact that the monsters got stronger as your level went up, so
you never totally dominated as in many RPGs.

You're just bitter for strange reasons.

Indeed, for the most part you've listed a bunch of unoriginal remake games,
which is another reason why the NES is better, since most of the better SNES
games were just remakes of good NES ones. Which is also why the PSX isn't
great but more mediocre, it's nothing but sequals to sequals.

Yeah but it was still cheap the way you could always get hits with spells by
timing it with the animation. I like the party building feature a lot.
I almost put Back tot he Future on there... as a joke anyway, since it's

Mortal Kombat 2 was never in development for the Jaguar. Mortal Kombat 3 was

I managed to beat that game once than give it away to my cousin who
proceeded to curse me after he played the game. :)
Of course, it's not the WORST game that was ever made. I can think of
a few games that I couldn't even finish because they were so bad (the
original X-men for one).
Heck, one game I really want to play again is NARC. Nothing better

A game's quality is not based entirely on its originality.
Ex: Contra 3 is still a much, much better game than Contra in terms of
gameplay, graphics, weapon/boss design, and sound. Being a sequel does
not make it a worse game. If originality alone = quality, why doesn't

game but it's bad-good not like BttF which is Bad-Bad. Mostly the first one
means quality I guess.
Sometimes. I did like ht etop down levels in Contra 3.

I no onger have the reflexes, patience, or care to replay the same part of
ANY game over more then a dozen times.

ostly I don't like playing sports games.

Possibly MGS was easier, so you know, now it falls into two contradicting
categories.

Yeah, They should have had more characters in Mario 64 with unreachable
areas except with certain players so you'd have to switch around a bit.

I always forget when I start to play each time though.

I suppose I won't mention the other loop hole of building nobodies and
rippin thier money and items off then trashing them.

Damn, dude...how do you sleep at night? :)
Even when your buddy can "scroll" you to death? Does anyone know what I'm
talking about?

Contra 3 took care of that problem by offering each player his own
screen (2 players B.) It was much easier to kill each other in Contra
by jumping up too fast.
Very carfully. I'm hoping one day all my hero killing will pay off nd land
me a job as a video game super villain one day.
Yeah, when the screen lifts and you die. I didn't mean the upward scrolling
levels though I meant the overhead street levels in Contra 3, could you
scroll your partiner off the screen in those? I thought it was split screen
in those parts.
