If I buy a N64 in the USA and bring it back to the UK, how can I get it to
run off the UK mains supply. Is it a matter of some sort of transformer or
can I simple buy a UK power supply?

thanks

No, don't do that unless you want to fry your N64!
Just get a 240/110v step down transformer and everything
should be hunka-dory. £20 from Dixons.

Excuse me but aren't we forgetting that US and UK television systems are
different ? The UK has PAL system and the US uses NTSC. Consequently I
don't believe a NTSC N64 will work at all with a PAL television.

The power pack for the N64 is easily substituted. I bought my N64 in
America but live in Japan. I simply bought a new power adapter, although
the power difference between America & Japan is only 10 volts I reckon it's
worth the $20 for the new adapter.

I DO use my UK Super Famicom here in Japan, which has NTSC format, but
that's because I have a multi-system television and can switch it to PAL
system. If I try playing on the NTSC setting then nothing happens !

Most modern TV's sold in the UK will play NTSC in RGB mode. I occasionally
us a 14" portable (Philips) thats about 8 years old with a perfect picture
(via SCART) from my US N64 in either composite video or RGB mode.

I thought there was something wrong with my Japanese N64 I plug it into my
UK TV an what happens If the Mario 64 cart is plugeed in I get a nice
colourfull picture and the little Italian dood saying "Itsa me Mario."
And here was me thinking that most new TV's are Multi format,
Obviously not cos you said so.

Bottom line: If you've a SCART or Composite input Telly, buy the US N64,
get a new power adapter, or use an international adaptor. It'll work.
