This is probably a stupid question (because I'm sure nobody reads this
newsgroup anymore, much less plays UT99), but does anyone know how to get
the "monsterclass chooser" (or whatever it's called?) working in ut4e (the
thing where you can supposedly pick a Teddy Bear, Devil, etc.?).
Documentation seems very vague about this. Thanks for any assistance!
Yeah its pretty dead. I'll hook you up though. Do you have the full U4E
install?
For full U4E install, do you mean patched up to version 602? If so, yes.
I'm running UT99 under Mandriva '09 (Spring) Wine on a dual core AMD system
(new to Linux gaming, so please be gentle! :-) ), but everything else in
the U4E Mod seems to be working fine.
I just don't understand how to add the monsters to the game (I assume by
pressing a certain key(s)?). I don't see anything in the Mod configuration
menu or in the documentation text files on how to go about doing that.
Anyway, thanks again for you offer of help! :-)
IIRC the extra "monsters" are actually skins to be used by the players. When
I get home this evening I'll take a look at the source code and give a
definate answer.
Kind of like the "helper" German Shepherds you could use against the
enemies in the original Quake game, I thought?
Anyway, thanks! I do appreciate the help!
Yes, you are right! I went and looked under the player set-up and the new
ut4e skins are there.
I feel so stupid that something this simple eluded me. Anyway, thank you
again for your offer of assistance!
Now let's just see how filthy Teddy bears mouth really is! ;-)
Np, glad to help. I've pretty much left UT, but you are welcome to archive
my email if you ever need a question answered. It's a hotmail account and
the name is agutgopostal
Okay, thanks! (for letting me archive your e-mail address).
I guess I spoke too soon though. I can bring up how the new skins look in
the setup menu, but they don't show up in the actual game maps when I go to
play them. I think I remember reading years back that in order to use a
new skin and voice pack in Unreal Tournament, you have too add a few lines
in one of the *.ini files somewhere (I was hoping not to have to do that
running it under Wine in Linux with it's "faked" C:\ drive :-( ). Anyway,
do you know what I'm talking about here? I thought I had an old text file
saved from my Windows days that explained exactly how to go about doing
that (adding new skins and v.p.'s to the game), but can't seem to find the
archived text file now. It's no big deal though if you can't help me with
this, I did get to see how the new ut4e skins looked like, and I agree with
others who basically said they looked like crap. ;-)
It's really a shame that Unreal Tournament isn't played much anymore, it's
still a fun game, especially with the add-on Mods circulating out there.
Much more exciting to me than stuff like Left4Dead where the endless stream
of zombie enemies get tedious after awhile.
If you play on a server, you'll have to add the "ServerPackages=" lines from
the readme. Offline (local) it should all be fine. Basically any .u package
you add to a server you need to create a sp line for. This lets the engine
know to replicate the mod to all clients.
There's still some groups still playing, though it's dried up considerably
in the past year. If you run a decent server you can expect a few public
players but most everyone is clan affiliated out of necessity to find enough
players.

No, I'm not playing anything on a server. I suck too much for that :-D. I
guess that ut4e just doesn't like running under Wine on Linux or under a 64
bit CPU, or something :-/. I had a few things that spontaneously started
working for me under ut4e (not any of the external skins or voice packs
though), they seem to work once, and the next time you start ut4e up again,
they are gone (as in not working) again. :-(
Ah well, thanks anyway for all your help! Having the replacement weapons
working in it has been fun enough.
Since a few months we have a U4E server up.
Also some mods we brought together on our dl page
