Anyone have any clue if the problem can be remedied? I assume it's just because
the game is too old, and the installers were released before hard drives were as
big as they are now, but it's still slightly confusing. Thanks in advance.

If you're copying it over from the CD remember to remove "Read Only"
from all the files, otherwise it will be unable to modify the
configuration file and assume there's no disk space.

Now, whenever I run DOS games through windows that use the Mouse (ultima 7, 8,
underworld, warcraft, and descent are the only games that come to mind, but it's
happened with others, too), I'll be playing for a few seconds, everything will
be fine. Then, all of the sudden, the cursor flips out. It moves to the farthest
corners and the effects of both mouse buttons appear out of nowhere. The
slightest movement of the mouse causes this spaz to occur.
(Example - Descent: the ship spins around mercilessly, firing off both lasers
and moving forward, the two effects of the mouse buttons. Note: This happens
when I simply try to look around with the mouse)
When I quit the program and return to windows, the cursor dances around the
screen, the right-click menu pops up, my icons are moved around. It's basically
the same case -- by simply moving the mouse around in my hand, the computer
somehow interprets that as me moving the thing fast and pushing the buttons like
a madman.
So far, I've come up with a few temporary solutions:
1. Switch the mouse to the serial port. As it stands, it connects through the
ps/2 (mini-din) port. However, when I use a little ps/2->serial connector and
connect it through com1, it doesn't do this problem (but affects windows in a
few ways, which I won't get into). However, due to the adverse effects on
windows, I don't like this solution (also, for some reason, last night, it
wasn't working.. either my com1 port is broken or my connector is.. the com port
is enabled as 38F, too.. maybe it just doesn't get enough power.. I have so many
devices in my computer these days.. anyway.. I digress)
2. Boot to DOS. This works. However, there are a few, obvious cons. First and
foremost, it's quite inconvenient. Sometimes, the need to play a game arises
when I am downloading a large file. Also, I don't have DOS drivers for my
soundcard, and am simply too lazy (and determined there's another solution) to
bother with it. And lastly, ultima 7 and 8 run alot more smoother with the new
programs that let them run natively under windows.
So, if anyone's ever heard of this extremely strange problem, I'd appreciate
info on it. I _do_ recall reading something about it on a forum long ago, but
there was no known fix, and they didn't know what caused it. For further
information, I've tried a few different mice/mouses, so it isn't the device
itself. Whew..
And I just found out how I could revisit some of my favorite games, only to be
reminded about my gimpy mouse :) Ah well.

Yeah. I bought a USB mouse. Fixed the problem :)
