I have the Vortex Cube and the two lenses. All I need to return the
Codex to the Ethereal Void is to put the 8 moonstones into the Cube.

Unfortunately, during the course of the game I buried several of the
moonstones at various locations so I could Gate Travel there. Now I
don't know how to get the moonstones back out of the ground, so I can
put them into the Cube. I tried digging with a shovel, using the
Runes, and various spells, but nothing works.

So far I've played the game with no outside help, but I'm really stuck
on this one. I'd really appreciate if someone could give me a *hint*
(as opposed to telling me the answer outright), so it's not so much of
a spoiler for me. Thanks!

Dave (played U3, U4, and part of U5 back in the mid-eighties. U8 and
U6 this year.... next project..... U1 and the mighty MONDAIN!)

As far as I know, and I'm *sure* someone will correct me if I'm wrong,
there is no way to dig up the moonstones. If you rebury them, they're
just gone. I couldn't believe it myself - but I never found a way to
dig them back up either, so I made sure I hung onto them until the end.
Good thing too. Don't panic though; you can always use the Spam cheat
to create moonstones to use for the ending. It's just darned annoying.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this one. I finished U6 on
Monday, but I've been out of town a bit so no chance to post anything
since.

Now that I've had some time to think about it, I will miss playing U6.
The music and graphics had a nice friendly feel, and it was easy to
get drawn into that version of Britannia and to achieve that elusive
"suspension of disbelief" while playing. My only complaint is that
the plot seemed a bit contrived in places. But I suppose that is the
price of nonlinearity. Anyhow, I'm kind of tired right now so I'll
stop for now. In a day or two I will post a more detailed critique of
the game, from the viewpoint of someone who's just played it for the
first time. In the meantime, I have to decide whether to start up
Ultima 1 (which I never played) or Ultima 5 (which I got partway
through back in the late 1980's, but never finished because my old
C-64 died). I suppose U-1 will seem outdated by today's standards,,
but it might be worth doing, if only to experience that dark
"primitivist" feel one only gets with archaic games. Any thoughts?

Dave

I seem to remember that at a certain time, the moongate vanishes and the
moonstone is visible - no digging required.

I got an eclipse. Definitely. The eclipse lasted the whole day.

When I had this problem the first time I played the game,
I had to wait until the moons were in the right alignment so the
gates would disappear. Other than that, I don't think there is
any other way to retrieve them (without cheating).
