I wonder if anyone has experienced something similar to this bug in 'Savage
Empire'... and if you have, I'd be stoked if you could offer any suggestions
on how to fix it:

Immediately after I dropped the boulder on the T-Rex's head, I saved. Then
suddenly I realised there were only 5 characters in the party, when before I
had 6. Rafkin had simply vanished - his little figure was not there in the
main window any more, nor was he listed any more in the stats window.

I walked a few steps north, and there I saw Rafkin standing right on top of
a yucca plant. He stayed stubbornly there, no matter how much I walked
around him.

I also found I could walk directly over the top of him. He didn't block me
like characters always do.

Using the 'Look' command on him, the game told me, "You see professor" and
showed me his portrait.

I was able to use the 'Move' command on him to shift him across a space. But
this was not helpful in getting him back into the party.

Using 'Talk' on him, I could have a regular conversation with him. So during
the conversation I tried saying "join" in the hope that he'd rejoin the
party - but he replied something along the lines of "But I am already with
you!". Which indicates that in some respect the game considers Rafkin to be
in my party. It's just that he's not listed and he won't actually follow me.

Then I tried saying "leave" to him during conversation, hoping that he would
"leave" completely, after which perhaps I could successfully ask him to
"join" again. But whenever I said "leave" he always replied "I most
certainly will NOT leave! I was here first." (That may not be Rafkin's exact
wording, but you get the idea - during conversation, for all intents and
purposes the game thinks Rafkin is in the party. But during non-conversation
adventuring gameplay, the game thinks he isn't.)

I tried 'Rest'-ing for the night, thinking that maybe doing that would
somehow jolt the game back into Rafkin being in the party. But it didn't
help.

I tried deliberately killing the Avatar (by using one of the other 4
characters in 'solo mode' to attack the Avatar over and over until he
reached zero hit points), hoping that dying and waking up again in Intanya's
hut would set things right. But this didn't help either. In fact, when I
awoke in Intanya's hut, there was a goat in my party. Yes, a goat. It had
Rafkin's statistics but none of his inventory. And its portrait was a
close-up of the wall of a wooden hut. I couldn't 'Talk' to this goat either,
but there it was.

Now my game is saved in this position where I've just grenaded the boulder
onto the T-Rex and I cannot get Rafkin back into the party.

Is there anyone who can offer any advice on fixing this situation?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew.

I don't have a clue about any of this stuff, but since it's U6-related,
DtE might be able to help.... his website is http://www.it-he.org/,
IIRC.

Thankyou for your suggestions. I seem to have fixed the bug since posting my
initial request for help. I used the 'Ultima 6 Developer's Kit' and the
'Savage Empire Patch' for it...both of these can be found at
http://members.nbci.com/_XMCM/ithe/u6_tools.htm in case anyone finds
themselves in a similarly tricky Savage Empire situation.

Andrew.
