I wont pretend to know nothing about UO2, but from my point of veiw it
will be a failure.
Let me explain..
I left UO to play EQ a while back, the game sure was pretty but it is
not a socially freindly game. Its a real pain to have to read a chatbox
and wonder who said what.
When i 1st got my hands on a videogame system, an OddysyII, it was
fantastic, and games stayed 2d for 20 years, 3d games are great for the
likes of 1st and 3rd person shooters,.as well as games like Zelda and
Mario64.
Zelda for example, the first 3 were 2d overhead view, loved all 3 of em,
i bought the n64 just to play the new zelda, 2 weeks later i sold em
both.
I find a trend among us older folks, and with the recent age poll mnost
of us are not teens, we prefer games of wit and intellect, as the young
kewldewds prefer the likes of quake, no brains run and shoot games. My
58 yr old mother pulls out her SuperNintendo on sundays when i visit to
play a few hours of DonkeyKong country.
Im sure im way off topic and probly incoherent, but thats what happens
when you find a collapsing house at noon and stay with it till it goes
down while getting ganked by others wanting it all for them selves, i
fell asleep on my keyboard. So to sum it up... whats UO2 besides a 3d
"hallshooter", play EQ for a week and youll be longing for 3/4 veiw 2d
games.

Frank Zappa is red again on Atlantic, willing to trade marble patio for
a small house on Europa. Also seeking advice on which shards have the
least amount of "we roxx juu" assholes.

This is so true I almost wish failure on OSI. Somebody really should
have told them 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Despite the gripes
many people have, UO is still the best MMORG I've seen.

I've never even considered playing EQ, for the simple reason that I
don't like the 3d view. Ok, that I don't have a credit card is another
reason, but we're talking about the views here. I've hear the
perspective can be changed to one resembling UO, ever bothered to
confirm it though.

I'm with you again here. I absolutely loved the first few Zelda games.
Often staying up until 3-4am on a school night just to get 'that little
bit further'. When my brother got an N64 one of the first games he got
was Zelda 64. Looks pretty, but it just wasn't the same. Needless to say
I was pretty disappointed and only played it because it was still the
best game he had. The N64 has a pretty disappointed game variety
over-all actually. Either gammy racing 'sims', first person shooters, 3D
Zelda-type games or arcades. Give me a NES or SNES anyday. I'd even go a
playstation before an N64.

The polygons are another thing that will almost certainly bury UO2
*knock on wood*. For the type of game I think the isolmetric (kind of)
view and pixels will always be the better combination.

I might suggest Oceania. The amount of assholes seems to be reletively
small. I havn't seen any of the other shards for about 18 months though.
Of course, even 6 month old Oceania has it's share or griefers. SeaBat
comes to mind, I'm not too far off reporting her but I don't want to be
responsible for a playing not playing anymore, no matter how much they
deserve a boot.
However, just because I don't want to doesn't mean I won't. So SeaBat,
if you can read - stop being a dumbitch.

Ive been slowly trying to shift to another shard.. Atlantic is whacked.. Im in
Miami and have better latency to shards in Japan then on my own east coast..
pretty pathetic.
Ill have to make another Frank Zappa on Oceana and take a good look around.
When Atl is down i like to practice my begging skills on other shards.. got a
nice nest egg growing on Europa and Napa.

It can but the game is pretty well unplayable from that view. In
addition the fact that its 3d accelerated graphics just means that the
graphics show there age worse than those on UO, which are getting sort
of classic.

The only time I wish there where different camera angles in UO is when
the thing you have just spent several minutes trying to kill runs off
and you finally kill it behind a house or trees and cant loot it.

As For UO2 or whatever its going to be called this week I think it might
just be worth the benefit of the doubt. I will probably give it a try
when it comes out but will not stop playing UO either. The thing tats
likely to stop me playing any thing else is NWN as I want to run my own
server and see that as the biggest time sink out.

Good luck and good hunting

Just turn on your "circle of transparency" and you will be able to loot your
hidden monster just fine. !

use "show all names" macro and just click on the monster ie "A glowing orc
corpse"
or circle of transperancy.. which makes me take 1 step per minute when its
on

I have it on all the time but there are still times when you cant get at
things for the likes of buildings and tree trunks. You can see the
drated thing you wish to loot just cant click on the corpse. Not a major
problem realy as usually you can control where the monster dies pretty
well.

I find it happens most with things I can only just kill and which take
me some time to get from an empty health bar to actually dead.

Hmmmm..... Better grammer would be.

'A' better....................... Use 'A' fool........Anyway I was asking
the question as if it were a headline as in 'Martions will they land on
Earth?' not as you would put it 'Will martions land on Earth?' its all in
the way it reads, catches the attention unlike your 'what % of UO is
complete' listen to the news look at papers then you will see......

This made me think of ye olde Syndicate Wars, anyone ever play that? The
graphics aren't 3D accelerated but still look pretty and the view is
360° rotatable as well as has a nifty zoom in/out and pan up/down
feature. There is also an option for 'deep radar' which makes a tall
building translucent incase it gets between your command ship thing and
your agents.

I'm not sure how effective something like that would be in a game like
UO though, it would definitely make the game a damn sight bigger and
likely slow it down a bit. But it'd be pretty great if it worked.

All you gotta do is set up a macro for "all names" . No matter where the
corpse lays get next to it and hit "all names". It will say " a monster
corpse" just double click that. Easy as pie.

Hey I remember that. Wasn't that where you could "take over" normal people
on the streets and turn them into your own agents with those mind control
things? Then you could add all kinds of implants to them, which boosted
stats but ruined their health (If I remember correctly.)

Yeah that was kind of it. You could only turn enemy agents into your
agents though, but you needed to 'persuade' two or three dozen civilians
before you could get an enemy agent. And then, of course, you had to get
close enough to them while they were pumping you (and your crowd of
civilians) full of lead and hope you still have enough civvies persuaded
when you reach the agent. :)

Alternatively you could just equip a few chain guns and mow down
anything that moved (or didn't). Very fun game. :)

The first game was pretty great, I only played it on the Sega Megadrive.
Let me tell you, Sydicate Wars is at least 100 times better. The
weapons, graphics, weapons, abilities, maps, weapons, missions,
vehicles, miscellaneous items, (did I mention weapons?) are all
infinately better, there's nothing more satisfying than taking along a
few nuclear grenades and leveling an entire city }:) Not to mention you
have the choice of being standard agents or bible bashers with attitude.
The only problem is it's addictive until you've played every mission a
few times (they don't really change enough second time around).
But trust me, if you even liked the first one just a little you'll LOVE
the sequel.

Enough of that, getting a bit off topic now :)
