Hi all,
After reading the group a bit, I have noticed something about connecting to
peoples private servers to play UO. I'm quite confused, and have a few
questions need clearing up.
Is this correct: People connect to the private servers once they are
registered with the 'admin', and can play UO for free, but not on the proper
servers?
If this is true, once you progress your characters on these third party
servers, is it possible to then take these characters, with all their
existing stats to the UO servers when you rejoin and start paying?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, and know very little about UO, i've only
used up my 30 days, months back, and got he urge to play it again.
Also, sorry if this is asked a thousand times! I couldn't see anything in
previous messages.

Thanks,
~Mike

The private UO servers have nothing to do with the OSI-run servers. The
free UO shards are run using server emulators programmed by hobyists, not on
the same software that OSI uses. Player-run shards all have their own
rules, features, etc. which are sometimes similar to regular UO, sometimes
not. But nothing you do on a player-run shard has anything to do with OSI
whatsoever; characters, etc. aren't transferable, etc.

Also, remember that player-run UO servers are only as good as the people
running them; your mileage will definately vary. Don't expect the same
playing experience unless you find a really good one.

No, characters cannot be transferred between servers, be they OSI run or
player run. Players could technically give your character database to
others to put on their shards if they wanted, but other than that no, it
cannot be done.
Player run shards tend to have a lower population, and the skillgain rules
etc. are normally different from those of osi shards. For example, on most
UOX shards, taming is instant, there is no delay, or bandages could heal
instantly rather than having a 5 or 10 second timer. This will more often
than non lead to imbalance - trust me, after 4 years in the game OSI should
have game balance licked (hehe! I am laughing)
