When I download them, they don't play properly...they're garbled and
sound terrible.
I'm using Netscape to download and WinAmp to play them...this combo
works just fine with MP3s from other sites. I've sent email to both the
Croft Times webmaster and Trogen himself...no answer.

I've had no trouble playing them. On the MacOS at least, one can
download them without corruption with Netscape Navigator by holding the
mouse button down on the link name.
A popup menu will appear, and one then selects "Save Link As...". A
save-file dialog box will appear, and at the bottom, there is a popup menu
which you set to "Source".

Happiness is a fast Macintosh
And a fast train
MP3 files sometimes become garbled during the download process. If you're
hearing garbled sound after you've download it, there is a shareware program
called "Uncook 95" which handles that problem. It's small and easy to use
and can be downloaded at: http://www.free-music.com/gr8/
Just start "Uncook 95", open the file you wish to listen to, and press
uncook.
Enjoy!

You are correct! Netscape seems to be somehow allergic to downloads
from the Croft Times site. I tried the d'loads again using Opera, and
they came through fine. I had the same trouble a while back with one
of the TR screensavers from CT as well, so I'll have to give it
another try too.
Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to reply...
