I'm sure my New years Eve will go something like this, I'll watch the
kids so my wife can go out with here friends from work. I may try and
see if I can get a group together and play the new version of Axis and
Allies.

Its way too expensive these days to go out to a club on new years eve.
This year the whole family is going out to dinner and then we're all coming
back here to finish off the alcohol that we got in.

Deep down in his heart, George W. Bush knew it was all Buzz

Anybody else ever own the original version with the counters (each
unit type had a different shape)?

Something tells me the excuse for not having a 1939 scenario is more
like, "We couldn't figure out a way of doing it where Japan simply
doesn't attack the USA and Germany piles on Britain after steamrolling
over France (it's a lot easier for Germany to build a navy in this
game than it was in reality) before finally going after the Soviets."
(Well, that and, "We didn't want to include the expense of having
French units that would be wiped out, except for whatever units
remained to represent Vichy and Free French forces, in a few turns.")

(And as for New Year's Eve, I believe that if I can't be outdoors near
Times Square, I might as well be home watching it on TV.)

When they made A&A Europe they could have it set in 1939. But people
would not have liked the game if it didn’t include the US.
