And thirdly, it takes an awful long time for the level to load after I
die or whatever. Is this normal?
Thanks for your help,
Amy
I know that problem. On my P200 MMX / 32 MB RAM it was really annoying.
I think the best thing you can do is to get more memory (64 MB)! That
accelerates things greatly!
Alex
Yes perfectly normal, Thief is notorious for slow loading times :Ź)

Bear in mind that you did *die*. If you were able to jump
back into action after a second the value of a life would
fall to nothing and the game would lose much of its tension
and suspense. Not to mention realism.

Just dodge them. If you can loose them by putting a few rooms between
you, most creatures will stop following you and just go into a search mode
for a while. You can also dispose of the especially annoying ones with
holy water arrows (use a vial of holy water while you have the water
arrows loaded.), wasteful but splatacular! Fire arrows, mines and flash
bombs, in sufficient quantities, are also effective, especially flash
bombs against undead mobs. Wear a raincoat.
And if you hate zombies just wait until you meet the Haunts!

It in a dark hole in a dark wall in a dark alley. I can't tell you
where much better than the map. You'll have to grope around in the
shadows, another skill you will develop. If you're frugal you don't need
them for the mission, even on Expert mode (you are playing Expert mode,
aren't you?).

Try the TTLG Forums and the Thief Circle or lytha.com.

Don't know about the chest but you turn pages by clicking on the
curled up corner.

What's normal when you enjoy skulking around in the dark, whacking
people to steal their stuff or desecrating tombs and churches? It seems
longer but it's completely normal for it to take 15 to 30 or more seconds
to reload a large level but if it takes a minute or more then you may need
to make some adjustments to your machine or the playing options.
Ciao,
Dok.
To get the arrows follow the alley past the front gate of the mansion,
once you start the mission as if you were going to the wellshed. Only
when you reach the first intersection, turn right. The arrows will be
on your right in a little nook. Just look around until you see
something light blue or brown light up.

Before you buy.
Haunts wear Hammerite novice uniforms and carry swords swords, and
Apparations look like Hammer priests, but are translucent and fling
bones rather than hammers.

Of course, we'll now get the old gits who can rememember the days when it
took 15 to 30 _minutes_ to load levels from tape, who will then be
countered by people who loaded their games off punched cards, who will be
countered by people who entered their programs by flicking switches...
etc, etc, etc. ;-)
