Hi all, I just started playing Thief Gold and am totally hooked. I
made it through Bafford's mansion but am not sure I can continue
through Cragscleft because the zombies have me terrified. :) I am
one chickensh*t thief. Anyway, I noticed on the map for Bafford's
that there is an arrow cache marked, but I have all my arrows at the
beginning and am totally unable to find it. What's up? So after I
finished the level, I went online to see if I could find any info
about this, but I couldn't. But I also noticed something about a book
in Bafford's library describing the scepter and a false-bottomed
treasure chest. I only read about the scepter. How do I look at the
second page of an item?

And thirdly, it takes an awful long time for the level to load after I
die or whatever. Is this normal?

Thanks for your help,

Amy

Well,I know that there isn't any false-bottomed chest in existence. If
there is nobody has ever said where it is,so I wouldn't worry about it.
I don't know where the cache of arrows is either, but you won't need
them.If you want to read the other pages of the scrolls and papyrus you
find, just right click on the tab of the page that's folded over by the
bottom right corner of your screen, and vice-versa to flip back the
page.As far as the level loading thing,I think it's a memory issue.The
more memory you have, and the faster your processor is probably will
contribute to faster loading times. So as long as you're not waiting
15 mins or anything,it's probably normal.

I know that problem. On my P200 MMX / 32 MB RAM it was really annoying.
I think the best thing you can do is to get more memory (64 MB)! That
accelerates things greatly!

Hmm, I think the arrow cache is hidden in a small alcove on the streets. I
have played Bafford's for quite a while, so I may be wrong on this. To look
at the second page, click on the little turned up bit of the page in the
bottom right hand corner, and it should move over to the next page.

Yes perfectly normal, Thief is notorious for slow loading times :Ź)

Bear in mind that you did *die*. If you were able to jump
back into action after a second the value of a life would
fall to nothing and the game would lose much of its tension
and suspense. Not to mention realism.

Just dodge them. If you can loose them by putting a few rooms between
you, most creatures will stop following you and just go into a search mode
for a while. You can also dispose of the especially annoying ones with
holy water arrows (use a vial of holy water while you have the water
arrows loaded.), wasteful but splatacular! Fire arrows, mines and flash
bombs, in sufficient quantities, are also effective, especially flash
bombs against undead mobs. Wear a raincoat.
And if you hate zombies just wait until you meet the Haunts!

It in a dark hole in a dark wall in a dark alley. I can't tell you
where much better than the map. You'll have to grope around in the
shadows, another skill you will develop. If you're frugal you don't need
them for the mission, even on Expert mode (you are playing Expert mode,
aren't you?).

Try the TTLG Forums and the Thief Circle or lytha.com.

Don't know about the chest but you turn pages by clicking on the
curled up corner.

What's normal when you enjoy skulking around in the dark, whacking
people to steal their stuff or desecrating tombs and churches? It seems
longer but it's completely normal for it to take 15 to 30 or more seconds
to reload a large level but if it takes a minute or more then you may need
to make some adjustments to your machine or the playing options.

Ciao,
Dok.

BTW, which ones are the Haunts and which are the Apparitions?

To get the arrows follow the alley past the front gate of the mansion,
once you start the mission as if you were going to the wellshed. Only
when you reach the first intersection, turn right. The arrows will be
on your right in a little nook. Just look around until you see
something light blue or brown light up.

Haunts wear Hammerite novice uniforms and carry swords swords, and
Apparations look like Hammer priests, but are translucent and fling
bones rather than hammers.

I don't think the haunts wear novices' uniforms. Recall that the only novice
in the game (talking to a priest near the chapel/shrine thing in Cragscleft)
wears blue. The haunts are dressed like normal hammerites.

Of course, we'll now get the old gits who can rememember the days when it
took 15 to 30 _minutes_ to load levels from tape, who will then be
countered by people who loaded their games off punched cards, who will be
countered by people who entered their programs by flicking switches...
etc, etc, etc. ;-)
