Wahooooo!!!
After week(s) of waiting developers come up with
this tiny patch that only fixes something fans have already
fixed and even improved (Thiefbot)?
Perhaps I'm silly but somehow I would have expected
more fixes/improvements done during this time.
For example, I doubt it's a coincidence that so many
players have found their saves being corrupted near the
Cradle (or something) level. Perhaps we'll get v1.2-
patch for this if we press/threat/harass Eidos/Ion Storm
hard enough?
Joe Blow Thief Fan has the luxury of knowing that if his hacked up trainer
patch crashes the game for half the people who use it, those people will
just shrug and not use his patch. They won't be out in the streets screaming
for him and his family to put be up against a wall and shot. And since he's
just a volunteer, he can walk away from the problem at any time he feels
like helping his fellow taffers is becoming too much trouble.
When you're the development company, the consequences of not testing the
hell out of the patch are far greater. They know they've already fucked up
once and pissed off a helluva lot of customers. If the patch introduces a
new killer bug, or fails to fix every single bug that even *looks* like the
same bug to the player, they're in for another month of PR hell and
sleepless nights.
Everything is easy for those who bear no responsibility for failure.
Of 2007. <g>
I kept a copy of the original .ini files. I replaced the modified
default.ini with the original, installed the patch, tested it was OK,
then went back to the modified file - no probs.
Sorry, I've been out of the loop. What is the Thiefbot fix, and what
does it do? I'm not far into the game -- just come out of the Pagan
Tunnels -- and don't seem to be having problems yet.

TDS has a bug that resets the AI difficulty value to Normal if you
reload a save or re-enter a zone during a mission. Both the patch and
Thiefbot fixes this. In addition, Thiefbot lets you hardwire the AI
difficulty to whatever values you want, all the time. In stock TDS,
the AIs are always on Normal difficulty when you're out strolling in
the streets. To an experienced taffer, this is a downer. The City is a
much more demanding and thiefy environment with expert level AIs.
