I completed T1 and T2 some time ago and was not aware that there were fan
missions out there. Can someone point me in the right direction to find
them? Do i need anything special to download and play them? Pardon my
ignorance...

Here is one link:

You will need Darkloader to run them. I think all you have to do is a
search for Darkloader and find it.

Hi! I'm glad you discovered the Fan Missions. You're going to love them!
For information on how to run them and where to get them, come visit us at
the TTLG Fan Mission Forum, here:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&forumid=100 and
check out the FAQ thread at the top of the topic list. It should tell you
what you need to know to get started. If you still need help, just post
here or at the forum and someone will give you a hand getting up and
running.

Hello fellow taffer!

You, my friend, have no idea how lucky you are finding out about the Fan
Missions just now! You're in for a huge surprise, believe you me! You've
already been provided with a link by Albert R. Conklin to the best place to
download the Fan Missions. That link still works, but won't work in the
future. The new address for that site is thiefmissions.com, and if you want
to go directly to the FM download page, thiefmissions.com/missions/.

What you need is a piece of software called the "Darkloader". It's created
and mainteined by Björn Henke, and you'll find the link to the download page
from Jason Tibbitt's thiefmission.com/missions/ -page, but a direct link for
your conveniece is here: http://www.bjoernhenke.de/index_e.htm

All the Fan Missions are distributed in a zipped (.zip) format. Do not
unzip them yourself, but create a directory for both Thief 1 (TDP/Gold) and
Thief II missions, and place the Fan Missions in them unzipped. Install
Darkloader, go to the setup page (a button on the lower right) and tell it
where your FM directories are located, and also where your Thief 1 and Thief
2 directories are. Then you're set to go.

When you want to play a Fan Mission, launch the Darkloader, and select a Fan
Mission from the list that is shows you. You have a couple of options.
First, you can click on "Play" and darkloader will back up your current
Thief setup and any saves that you have for your current (in the first run
the original missions obviously) mission, unpack and install the selected
Fan Mission, and then launch Thief for you, after which you play normally.
The second option is "Install Only", which only sets the Fan Mission ready
for you to play, but doesn't start the game. I don't think I've ever used
that option.

So the important things are, don't unzip the Fan Missions, and start the Fan
Missions via the Darkloader. You need to have the original Thief CD in
drive to play the Fan Missions.

You can switch between playing different Fan Missions if you like. The
Darkloader will always back up your active Fan Mission or Original Mission
along with all your saves, so when you return to that missions you have all
your saves. You can also mark finished Fan Missions to keep track of what
you've played.

You've also been recommended the Through The Looking Glass forums and Thief
community at www.ttlg.com/forums. It's an amazing community! Incredibly
friendy and supportive, and very active. You cannot pass it, it's really
great. Hope to see you there ;)

A couple of other Thief-links in case you're not aware of these:
www.thief-thecircle.com is _the_ source for all kinds of info on Thief:
Walkthroughs, guides, fan fiction, art, multimedia, info, rumors etc. etc.
www.keepofmetalandgold.com is Komag's site, and also provides Fan Missions
for download, and if bandwidth is a problem or you just want to get all of
the FMs in a convenient format on CD or DVD basically for free (you need to
provide the CDRs or DVD and the self-addressed envelopes with required
postage), Komag offers that as well. A rather incredible service, don't you
think? There are around 3.5 gigabytes of FMs available, and more a coming in
all the time.

Welcome to the utterly unbelievable world of Thief Fan Missions! You really
are one lucky taffer!
