I know I saw a post on one of the simsNG's about this, as this is how I
learned of it in the first place. I have tried it and it really is an
amazing program. Someone said that the people there just want to
cyber...some do some don't. So far everyone I've met has been really nice
and helpful. You get 4 rooms and can download 4 more as well as buy more
rooms. There are websites where you can download more actors, textures and
pics for free. With the way the game is configured you can set your prefs
for anything from wide open (all the good with all the bad) or customize
your levels to suit your needs. I've had a blast there today and it'd be
great to see some of you there. The characters are able to do actions that
would make the sims characters crash to the desktop...lol (not that I don't
like the sims, this is just really a great 3D environment). If anyone's
interested and can't find the other post then let me know and I'll send you
the link.

LOL...that was my reaction as well. Glad I did though.

Goto 'Features' on the right side menu and you can download 'rose1.8' there.
Once you've installed it you can click on the community button in the
browser and then 'buddies' from the menu on the left. My user name is
n0name28 (the 0 is a zero). I'll be glad to help you out anyway I can. I'm
still very new but I've learned a lot and don't mind helping out.

It has a ways to go before I will be impressed by it. It doesn't seem to be
very stable, there's really not that much you can do in it, and there is no
easy way to get actors. For those that haven't seen it, if you don't have
an actor that someone is using, then you see this default red boxy actor
instead. You would expect to be able to right click on an actor to get the
actor, but that isn't an option. Instead, you have to ask the person where
he got the actor from, which of course no one is ever going to remember, as
there is no information that comes with an actor.

So, right now, Rose seems to be nothing more than a fancy form of IRC.

I'm assuming no one tried to help you learn how to get around and such.
There is SO much you can do with Rose. Just take dancing for example. The
more actors you have the more dances you can do...each actor has it's own
soul and actions/movements specific to it. You can dance by yourself, with a
partner, erotically with a partner, on a table, in groups,... You can
levitate...play 'stone, paper, sissors' with others, run, jump, exercise in
a variety of way, throw balls or roses at others, hug others, kiss others
(even very passionately, bum rubbing and all),...the list goes on and on.
What makes this so great is that it's real time with real people.

With the free version, which is all some ever want, the furniture and
appliances are sparce, but you can download textures to recolor them. I have
already recolored the wood floor to a nice teal color, as well as some
curtains I downloaded. You can open up the folder on your hard drive where
you keep jpgs and bmps and then drag and drop them on the floor of your
rooms...from there you can place them on walls and resize them with 6
different preset sizes. You can also get the furniture in a variety of sizes
from very tiny to very large. I hear that the cd comes with tons of extra
furniture, textures and actors but I don't have plans to get it right now.
You can download room set textures that will act like wallpaper but
redecorate the look of your rooms. You have 4 given to you at registration
but you can download another 4 rooms for free from the shop page in
community. (left menu, near the bottom) Someone gave me the tower room and I
don't mind sharing it with anyone...great room with a working fireplace. I
have heard that you can buy extra rooms with your community dollars also but
I don't know where that is yet. (this is just day 3 for me)

You earn community dollars for different things..at registration you get
1500 cd's I think. For anyone you refer, and they use your user name on sign
up, you get 300cd's for that. You get cd's for your length of on time when
you log out(left menu on community page, near the bottom). You also get them
for helping others I'm told. There is a room/house called Chantilly's where
you can buy things with your cd's but if you save them you can earn
medals..I think. Still learning about the medals.

As for the actors, there are between 2-3000 actors you can download. I have
quite a few good links that I'll add to the end of this post. If you have
the rose tool, available for free on the shop page, (left menu on community
page), then you can import them in game. The rose tool gives you 12 buttons
on your cam. You do need this...most useful. You are correct about the
bots...if you don't have the actor, (act file) the person is using you will
see the bot. There are a variety of actors, ranging from biker chicks to
anime to nudes to disco to....

On the community page the menu on the left is like a portal...you can visit
scout rooms (which are for newbies to get help from) or you can click on
visit and chat to see a list of 50 houses that are within your interest
level you designated when you registered. To see the users info, click on
their user name. To visit the house, click on the house name. It is colored
coordinated also...green is for newbies, yellow is for people with the cd,
blue is for male users and pink is for female users.

Poses...lol I'm am still learning to make my own poses but you can copy them
from other people and save them to use yourself. For this you click on the
theatrics button on the browser, (not the arrow), and you will see a variety
of poses and moods. There is a wizard's hat in the top left corner...this is
how you make and save poses. Say someone shows you how to relax on the
couch. You would right click on that person and choose 'copy posture'. Then
you would click on the wizard hat, click modify this posture, click remote
and then next. Click next again. Type in a name or abbreviation for your
pose, click save, then click finish. Viola...you have a new pose. To use
this pose you type the name you gave it in brackets <> in the chat window
and press enter or send. For instance, I named the pose for relaxing on the
couch LB. To use this I would type "<LB>", without the quotes, in the chat
screen and press enter.

There is so much more and if you come by my house I'll be glad to help you
out. (or I could come to yours). My user name is n0name28, (the 0 in n0name
is a zero) and my house name is 'the green room'. You can search for me
using the member search. To get to it, go to community page and on the left
menu click buddies. At the bottom of that page you will see another menu for
searching for buddies. I hope to see you in Rose soon. :)

I sent this to n0name already, but for a good avatar-based chat program try
the WorldsPlayer at www.worlds.net

Its been around for about 6 years and people come and go, but it is quite
fun.

Like I said, it's a fancy IRC clone. None of the things you mentioned in
this post are very interesting to me. It has a long way to go before it
will become useful.

That's your opinion. I've talked to people who were long time users of mirc
and they disagree with you. To each thier own.
