When the Dwindling's arrived in Dragonwold there was a great stir among
the inhabitants...short people! They barely reached the shoulders of the
average elf! When asked where they came from, Po Dwindling, the
patriarch of the family shrugged and muttered something about "..under a
rock..." Coly, his wife, was a stout little soul, bustling around
constantly picking up after her lazy husband. Seemed like all he ever
wanted to do was play with theier son, Pym. Much to Pym's detriment, Po
saw no use for the boy to go to school and engaged him in a game of
catch when the chimes sounded for that day's lessons. Joli, their
teenaged daughter, dutifully gathered up her books and slate and left
for school, clucking her tongue at her Dad and her brother. Pym rambled
about the house much of the day, getting into this and that. He ate 4
plates of food that his pregnant mother left on the table and to his
credit, cleaned up half the mess. Po walked through several times,
oblivious to the flies that were collecting in the kitchen. Poor Colly.
She was so hugte and swollen with this pregnancy and she just had no
energy left. She had considered asking Joli to stay home from school,
but had sent her on her way, hoping that one day the girl could go to
the college like normal children. Po left for his job as a slopsman at
the tavern and Colly fell into bed exhausted. When Joli came home from
school, Pyn was still in his nightshirt. She knew her mother was near
her time and considered calling Anya Prescient, the medwife, but
thought, no, maybe Colly just needed the rest. She played a fw games
with her brother, keeping him downstaiers and away from Colly. An
unfamiliar noise came from up the ladder...the children ran to the
ladder and gazeed up...There was Colly, holding the new baby. She had
managed to deliver the babe by ehrself! Joli took her baby brother from
her mother and held him, making soft sounds. She looked up and asked
what they were going to name him. "Why, Tym, of course!" Pym came over
to look at his new brother and gasped. "What is that on his face?" he
exclaimed. Tym's left eye was surrounded by a large port wine stain.
Colly explained that he had been marked as special by the spirits and
that they wouldn't know why until he grew up. Joli put Tym in his crib
and went to the kitchen to fix a meal for them all. Colly was not only
tired, but she felt famished! Colly ate a little bit and then lay down
on the couch to wait for Po to come home from the tavern. Colly cleaned
up and sent her brother off to bed. She did some homework while the baby
slept and then took herself off to bed. Colly waited and waited for Po.
It seemed that he came hom later each night. She had her suspicions
ablout that man! She had overheard a conversation between him and Rini
Tyraedel about wishing he could get Challis Shepardess out behind the
shed! Fortunately, she knew that Challis was enamoured with Pata Pan and
casually flirted with Po just to be polite. But still, the man had 3
children, for Pete's sake! And it wasn't like he didn't get enough at
home! Oh well, she sighed. She had enough to worry about with the
children than to have to worry about her biggest child, too.

Note: When I made the Dwindlings, I tried playing with the stretch
skeleton cheat but it was just too much of a pain. I found this fix for
simPE and voila! short people that stay short! It's a great fix. I also
made Bron Brae really tall...will be altering the height of seeral other
SIMS along the way. Rexus Mentatus is going to become a very imposing
creep! And, oh...if they are heavy SIMS and you make them short they
just get rounder, which is quite cute! haven't a clue, though, why the
baby has a port wine stain...I know that Po got her preggers and he nor
she have got any facial anomalies going on.

Do you have that skin from genensims? And is it the genetic version? If
so, that's why.

Yes, I do...came in with a downloaded SIM from Sapphire SIMs I do
believe...I guess I just thought the genetics came from the
pareents...the game then assigns genetics to them other than what you
originally build them with?

The skins that come with the game are assigned numbers on a scale of light
to dark. Custom skins can be made genetic with SimPE by assigning a number
to them, also. Most of them are placed (using decimals) between the Maxis
default skins of light, tan, medium, and dark. Once you have geneticized
skins in your game, they can show up at any time in a birth UNLESS the two
sims are of the same skintone themselves and don't carry any recessive genes
(ie, CAS sims of the first generation).

So, if someone made the birthmark skin genetic and placed it between, say,
the light and tan skin values in the game, and you had a light skinned sim
and a tan sim breed, you might get a light skinned baby, a tan skinned baby,
or any of the genetic skins between those two values, including the
birthmark skin.

Genetics in this game fascinate me. I don't have that birthmark skin, but
it would be interesting to see it pop up from time to time.

Thanks for the explanation, Jeanne..made it more clear... they were CAS
sims but have different skin tones, so the possibility existed..this is
th first baby born with anything like that..the other 4 babies all have
either one or the other skin tone lof their parents..

and speaking of babies...why on earth do SIMS put them on the floor when
there's a bed avaialbe? That really irritates me...Colly put the baby
down on the floor right in front of the crib last...irk irk...BTW, the
baby will be turning toddler today and that snake, Po, has already got
Colly pg again withtwins...

Some of the skins I made have the same values as the EA 'normal' ones. So
you don't even need the parents to have different skin tones for other
genetic skin tones to pop up - they just have to fit the available number
range. If you package the sim to me (without cleaning it up in SimPE) I
willbe able to tell you if the skin it is using is genetic. Just send the
whole family if necessary.

Can you package a baby or do I have to wait until it turns toddler and
has a real identity?

It just goes to show you that baby beds are pretty much optional in this
game. I've had poor sims who had twins and could only afford one crib and I
tried to take turns putting each baby in the bed, but the one on the floor
did just fine. Once they become toddlers, though, they tend to have a bit
of trouble sleeping on just the floor. They don't "rest" as well and
sometimes wake up cranky. That's when the toddler blanket comes in handy.

The easiest way for you is to package up the house. That way I'll get all
the files I need.

Of course you could just open Tym in SimPE and see what number skin he is
using. Then open the birthmark skin in your game (confirm it has the same
number) and check to see if it's been geneticised - by seeing if the genetic
line of the XML portion of the skin is custom (0) or genetic (anything
greater than 0)

ugh...I'll swnd you the house...I'm just learning about going in there
and tweaking things around and it makes me nervous...BTW, question: If
you can go in and change the value for height, can you do the same thing
for girth? They must use pretty much the same kind of value system, I
wlould think, to determine weight so what would happen if you mega
increased the weight value?

I don't know. I've heard the height discussion before, but never seen one on
girth. You could try asking at MATY - or have a look for a girth setting in
the same place as you found the height one (if they're labelled in any
comprehensible manner).

I don't know if you've sent the house yet or not - you could try posting it
in a binaries group or zipping and mailing it to me. Just make the message
title nice and descriptive so I don't bounce it. I've been having a lot of
offers of pictures from nice lonely girls and messages from bank managers
just recently, so you could get lost in the dross.

Girth is related to the mesh - meshes come in two sizes normal and 'fat'
(which is a joke) - well some meshes (body meshes) some in three sizes:
ripped, normal and 'fat'. It's not possible to slide between them, there's
no equivalent value for girth to the one for height. All the height thing
does is stretch/squash the mesh vertically. I'd guess trying to do that
horizontally would cause tremendous problems for the animations - anyway
it's simply not set up that way. If you want fat sims, you have to download
a fat mesh which can be properly fat or even fatter. There's a fat family
set of meshes on MTS2 and also a thin one. You can make the mesh stick for
all states by some jiggery pokery with SimPE (which I haven't tried yet
though I have plans for both bodyshapes in Little Carping).

Problem with that, though, is you have to download outfits from that
same creator to fit them...or is that what you mean by the jiggery
thing? You mean if you do the jiggery thing the clothes you ahve will
fit them? I've been using the "curvy girl" clothes from the Dark Project
for mine and now that I found you can make them shorter, it also makes
them fatter...so now I can just squash "fat" ones a bit and make them
fatter and their clothes stay the same...only thing that doesn't work is
they have a regular looking pregnancy (which is funny because the one I
did it too was fatter in normal life than she was when she was pregnant!)

I was wondering about those. How exactly do they work? Are they simply
clothing you put on the sim in CAS or do they somehow replace the default
body meshes? I've thought about downloading them but if they are just
clothing, I don't want them. Too disturbing when the sims take a shower.

It wouldn't matter. You just package them to a file and then delete the file
when you've sent it. The ones in the game won't loose their relationships
and I won't be playing them so I don't need their relationships - I do
however need more than you sent me. I need their skins, which sending them
as a house would package together for you without you having to search for
the right ones.

Well, what I can tell you from what I have so far is that Tym has Colly's
skin (and that Colly has grey hair, but that's besides the point). Both
Colly and Tym share the same custom skin. It's possible the skin has a
special state for babies, but it's more likely that you've got a rendering
fault (or whatever they're called) that will correct itself as the child
grows.

Sounds disgusting when you put it that way. ;')

Anyway it's my turn to say goodnight. It's 6 minutes past midnight and once

The jiggery pokery means you can assign a fat mesh for when they are naked
so they retain their bodyshapes at all times thought I suspect they can't
have genetic skintones. It's about time I had a go at it and find out
properly. It's probably dead straightforward. In some ways Sims 2 is far
easier to mod than the first game.

Only if the custom skin tones have also been jiggered with. There's at least
one genensims skintone that fits an early Warlock's fat mesh. I've tended to
stay away from them because I have no idea of how they work in the game. Do
