Thanks!

P.S. Off-topic question: Does anybody know of a good newsreader for Mac OS
X? I'm tired of rebooting into OS 9 just to read this or other newsgroups.

AFAIK, nope. (I tried once making a disk image of my CD and using that,
but the game still complained that the CD wasn't in the drive;
apparently it looks for some sort of special code found only on the CD.
Ridiculously, all the CD is used for if you have Hot Date is to provide
the startup movies; everything else your game needs is on your hard
drive.)

Try using clone cd. The Sims hotdate and vacation use safedisc V2, as
the protection. You can configure clone cd to copy the cd.

We were discussing the *Macintosh* version of The Sims; I presume you
are referring to a PC program.
