Just did a search on SWG in the feeds and noticed the group, seems a bit
forgotten though.

Which do you mean: the newsgroup, the actual game, or both?

Too bad... even a good game post-CU.

And before I start too much trouble. It's true - much, much better pre-CU.

Just started the 14 day trail not long ago. Never played it before. On
it's own merits, enjoying it very much so far & will probably take
advantage of the cheap all-in-1 premium online download deal for an
extra month.

So, where does one go to ask questions & find out about in game
elements? Please don't say the forums - arrrggghhhh!@#$%^&*(! ;)

Can't help you much there. I returned to the game about 2 months ago after
being away almost 3 years, and had to bug people with all my inane questions
that I couldn't find answers to. What server do you play on? I just
canceled one of my accounts, but I have another still active on the
Corbantis server.

The official forums are actually a wealth of information if you can manage
to find it (and find stuff that isn't horribly out of date). I highly
recommend the profession guides that are stickied in the profession boards.

I could try to help you out here if you have some specific questions.

Cheers dude! I'm on EU Chimaera due to the US DT hitting Aus at 9pm 3
times a week which sucks (had great pings on US too dammit heh).

I'm slowly working my way through Legacy (16 lvl Jedi). I said I wasn't
going to play a Jedi, but after I moved away from my BH on Valcyn, I
created a Jedi on a lark & guess what? They're so much more survivable
it was too much to resist ;). Plus I like the combo of melee & ranged
attacks (I use the best blaster rifle I can get my hands on at any given
level, which is great for puling mobs. Hey, even Luke carried a blaster
here & there! :)

What I'm really interested in is some tips on the following topics
(remember: absolute newb - no idea of the 1st place to start ;):

1. Targeting: current vs intended - still not coming to grips with it;
also auto-attack is a little hit-miss I find. I'm using my mouse to
double-click opponents right in front of me instead of the keyb &
sometimes it just doesn't attack, or attacks once & then stops, losing
valuable ground against tougher opponents. I've mapped "X" to target mob
under reticle, but it's a pain & sometimes when I use the Tab key in
frantic combat to cycle to next opponent quickly it targets some mob
across the room/way over there & I end up dragging more adds in *sigh*.
I've mapped 'R' to autoattack too. Why is there just no 'target closest'
farking key!? Can I macro it perhaps? What's the point of the 'intended'
target crap - to set up your next target for auto-attacks, which are
kinda borked anyway? They should have had an option for traditional mmo
targeting - what u see is what u get - 1 reticle, 1 target, easy.

2. autoloot: is there a simple macro to do this on any nearby mob you
kill automagically? I use "/loot", but I still have to press my "F" key,
which I have it bound to, while targeting the corpse with blue brackets,
which is a bit of a pain.

3. Can I do some harvesting/surveying/crafting/schematics/etc with my
Jedi, or do I have to start a 2nd Trader char to experience those
things? How/where do I start, what tools do I need, what's the best
places, buying/selling, etc. Should I be harvesting every corpse for
bones/meat/? What are all these furniture schematics I've had since the
tutorial, as well as some meat recipes & other mundane items in my
datapad? Any/all tips to get me on the right track much appreciated!

4. Pet care: just put my 1st point in Incubation - where/how do I get my
first pet? Do I have to kill something in the wild to pinch its DNA with
that collector skill? I already have a heap of enzyme flasks in my spare
backpack, but still no ideas how to use them lol!

5. Changing professions: I've read you can switch profs any time. What
are the prerequisites & what does it mean to the existing (old) prof if
you do switch to a new one & want to come back later?

In any case, I'll be able to start posting to the official forums soon -
even the so-called 'new player' posts & stickies I looked at there are
quite confusing & presuppose a certain degree of game knowledge I just
didn't have when I read them.

TIA a million!

Jedi certainly do have great survivability. I would suggest ditching the
blaster as soon as you get any kind of ranged attack (saber throw or force
lightning). You can pull just as well with those, and you won't get called
names by other people who see a jedi running around with a gun. ;)

Don't get me started on this crappy targeting system. I also mapped X to
target the mob under the recticle, but I used ~ for autoattack and then
mapped "target and open radial menu" to the left mouse button. Forget using
Tab for cycling targets (even in other MMOs this usually isn't the best way)
and try using mouseover + X instead. You'll be much more efficient once you
get used to this.

The reason it's all crazy like this is because the original design for the
new interface (no, it wasn't always like this) was so that you had to keep
your mouse cursor on top of your target while fighting. Imagine playing a
ranged class trying to fight another ranged class in PVP with both you
running around...

Make a new macro, call it "loot" (or call it something else and change the
last line).

/loot;
/loot all;
/harvest hide;
/macro loot;

This will attempt to loot anything your mouse cursor is on top of. It works
wonderfully, but will cause a bit of spam if you leave your mouse on top of
something you've already looted.

You can place a harvestor with any character that has lots available, but in
order to survey or craft you need a Trader. Traders have surveying devices
that tell them the best spots to drop a harvestor. Jedi can't survey but
they can craft lightsabers, in addition to some generic recipes like the
meat recipe you found in your datapad.

Yes, you should be harvesting every corpse you find for hide/bones/meat. If
you start a trader, you will probably need at least one of these things in
abundance for leveling up. (Don't forget to change your loot macro based on
what you want to be harvesting!)

The furniture schematics you've found are probably very common, and all of
them will be unusable by your jedi. You can bring them, along with the
proper resources, to a friendly Trader and they will be able to craft it for
you.

As far as buying and selling goes, your first stop is going to be a Bazaar
Terminal. The bazaar is a place where anyone can sell anything up to a
certain limit, which is believe is 20,000 credits. Items can be placed for
auction or for instant sale. You can bid on or buy any item from any bazaar
terminal, but in order to retrieve the item you must be in the same city &
planet where it was sold from. The terminal will tell you where that is.

You can also use the Bazaar Terminal to perform a vendor search. This will
give you a much wider selection of goods to find, as it searches every
vendor in the galaxy (that has the search option enabled). You can't buy
anything from a vendor using the bazaar terminal, but what you can do is use
the buttons on the bottom of the screen to create a waypoint in your datapad
to the vendor that sells the item you're looking for. Then you have to
travel to the vendor and actually buy it.

The bazaar terminal is a great place to sell things cheaply, but if you have
items that you want to sell for more credits you should consider creating a
Trader. Traders are the only characters that can create vendors.

I haven't messed with Beast Mastery since I've been back, and I can't tell
you how it works really. I know that you need to collect DNA from live
creatures and then gather the correct enzymes and whatnot to combine in an
incubator in order to create an egg. After that's done you can hatch the
egg and start playing with your creature. Making high-end creatures is
extremely difficult (so I'm told) and requires odd combinations of
resources.

> 5. Changing professions: I've read you can switch profs any time. What
> are the prerequisites & what does it mean to the existing (old) prof if

All you need to do this are credits. The amount of credits increases
dramatically each time you switch.

There are 3 types of experience in SWG - combat, crafting (traders only) and
social (entertainers only). The game will remember exactly how much xp you
have in each category. So if you took a level 16 jedi and switch to BH, you
could become a level 16 BH. If you took the same character and switch to
entertainer, you would be level 1. If you leveled entertainer to 90 then
switched back to jedi, you would be level 16 - right where you left off.
Any special abilities granted or schematics learned will stay with you (in
the event that your new profession can't use them, they'll still be there if
you switch back later). The only thing to remember is this: If you have a
trader and create a vendor, you will not be able to use the vendor in any
way if you switch professions to a non-trader profession.

I hope none of that was too confusing. Here's a link to the SWG Wiki in
case you don't already have it:

Heh, I may just do. Even though it does as much dps as my valerian
polearm, it seems half the time I open up on a mob from max range they
insta-port to within melee range anyway! I mean, wtf??? Lag? :-/

Arggghhhh!!! Yeah, getting used to it slowly. I may just remap TAB to
target under reticle as I'm so used to hitting this for targeting in
most other games (& screw cycling if it's all over the shop anyway). I
still can't believe there's no 'target closest'. Gonna look for a macro :)

Other thing that bugs me is that if I swap PCs (I use desktop & laptop
interchangeably at home & may use work pc to play at lunchtimes as well)
I lose all my inventory setup, options & UI settings, which is a pain. I
know I can copy my entire profile, but then a lot of video/performance
options are different from one machine to the other, so it's still a
manual re-jig every time. These mmo devs really need to start thinking
about mobile computing ppl ey *sigh*.

Cool. So this rus continually I take it? Doesn't it keep popping up 'no
corpse to loot' msgs most of the time when not over a corpse, which
would be pretty annoying?

So only traders are true crafters in SWG? Ok. Which flavour of trader do
you recommend to complement a Jedi newb?

KK. Can I only harvest one raw from a corpse, so you suggested hide in
the autoloot macro above because it's most common/best resale...? Or can
I harvest multiple raws from dead mobs?

Bah! What would a freelance Jedi knight like myself want with furniture
lol? Actually, I see so much player housing around in the
wilderness...the game really must have been busy once. Now the Mos
Eisley cantina seems to be the only really 'busy' place most of the time.

Had a looksee already. I stil haven't bought anything, though I put 3
items up for auction/sale. I just haven't been able to find anything
better than my own gear/weapons for sale at my own level. Most of the
gear is affordable now that I have over 100K at almost 18th level.

Check.

Will do.

It's actually far, far more involved & scary than that. Check this out:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=0&topic_id=442055&#4925078
I wonder if I've wasted that expertise point & a free respec now :-/
Oh well, I've got some bantha DNA & various Isos; just need to forage
for some lyases enzymes & extract some hydrolase & I'm on the way to
making my first mongrel lol! Man, the process flow chart halfway down is
enough to scare away most sane ppl I'd say! ;)
Maybe I'll just buy the egg a 'adopt' a bastard beast instead he he.

Just to a new profession, or any time you go back & forth? With only 2
slots they really should have made it a once-off charge for each new
prof you switch to, but I have a feeling you meant each & every switch.
Is there a cap on the cost?

Gotcha. Can other ppl still buy from your vendor if you leave him
stocked up b4 u switch?

Been scouring that site already - a nice dancer showed me some of the
ropes & that URL while I was getting a lap dance which gave me almost 5K
kinetic & energy dmg resists (plus something else). Mind you, I didn't
really notice a great deal of dmg mitigation when I went out & faced the
mobs...hmmm...maybe it was a case of every little bit helps? Is 5K
resists a biggie at 16th or so lvl?

He, he, so how exactly does it work? And what are all those /way macro
cmds? I also have no idea how to go about starting collections or
collecting. Will endeavour to read up on them.

Thanks heaps again for all your help dude. Saving your replies for

Will do.

Thanks heaps again for all your help dude. Saving your replies for

Believe it or not, these kinds of bugs have been around since the game was
released 5 years ago.

> Cool. So this rus continually I take it? Doesn't it keep popping up 'no
> corpse to loot' msgs most of the time when not over a corpse, which

Yes, it's a looping macro and runs until you use the /dump command. And no,
it will only spam messages at you if you have your cursor over an
already-looted corpse. If your cursor isn't on a corpse, it won't pop up
any messages.

> So only traders are true crafters in SWG? Ok. Which flavour of trader do
> you recommend to complement a Jedi newb?

A Domestic Goods Trader (tailor or even chef) might be best to go with jedi.
With a chef, you'd be able to make your own buff foods and with tailor you
can make your own SEAs and skill-modded clothing (little more on this
below). This is one of the biggest moneymakers in the game currently, if
you take the time to learn how to do it.

> KK. Can I only harvest one raw from a corpse, so you suggested hide in

You can only harvest once per corpse, so you'll have to choose which one you
want before you go out slaughtering. I suggested hide because it's the most
useful for me (Armorsmith), and it was easy to copy & paste the macro. :)

Having a house is a lot of fun sometimes. Even if you suck at decorating,
like me, you can still make a house look neat with a few items.

http://dkpfiles.com/archonsofluden/pics/251.jpg

Here's a pic I have that shows a little bit more decorating effort

http://dkpfiles.com/archonsofluden/pics/14.jpg

As far as places to hang out, try checking out the cantina in Theed or the
Dantooine Mining Outpost. The MO is the busiest place on Corbantis,
usually.

The only gear you may need to buy is the clothing I mentioned above
(resources are a different story). This is a huge can of worms that I can't
really go into because I'm not that familiar right now but...
You can get a piece of clothing made that has 3 stats (stats vary based on
the items used to create them) that are all at +35. Getting a set of +35
clothes will be your priority once you get closer to level 90. They're much
better than the robes available, until you can get the jedi master cloak.
You can have the 3 stats be primary stats like Strength, Stamina and
Constitution or more specialized stats (I think these are called "exotics"
now) like 1 handed lightsaber action cost.

Check out this site for a Reverse Engineering guide, in addition to all the
resources currently spawned on your server:
http://www.swgcraft.co.uk/dev/home.php

There was once a profession unto itself called Creature Handler that could
make some pretty tough creatures, but those days are long over. Personally,
I don't consider it to be worth the time or the sacrifice you have to make
in your character's skill set. It seems like a lot of fun though, if you
can take the time to learn how to do it properly. You might also be able to
make some decent money off of it. I had a rare creature egg sell for 75
million credits on my server a couple weeks ago. It was a 60 point fanged
tiglon.

It's each and every time you switch expertise OR professions. The cap on
cost is 12,000,000 credits.

Yes.

5k is huge at such a low level. Other professions get armor at level 22,
but as a jedi you're pretty much screwed until you get some decent clothing.
You should always try to get an entertainer buff before going out. I would
suggest something like the +10(15?)% xp gain, +120 constitution, +120
stamina. This gives you the all-important bonus XP you want while leveling,
and will almost double your health and action pools at this level.

The /way commands are there so you can copy and paste from the website into
the SWG macro interface (you may need to bind the copy and paste shortcuts
in SWG first). If you add all of them to a macro, and then execute the
macro, it will add all the waypoints to your datapad. You could also type
them in one at a time, or just keep track of them with a piece of paper. If
you go to any of the waypoints in the list, you'll find a clickable item in
the form a box on the ground. Click the item and wait about 5 seconds
without moving and you'll get a message that you've added it to your
collection. Collect all 8 of them and you'll get a message saying the
collection is complete and you'll find a deed for an ITV in your inventory.
You can use the ITV outside of any major city or POI (it will work in player
cities) to instantly travel to any shuttleport or starport that is on the
same planet you're on. Very handy in avoiding those long, boring speeder
rides.

Collections are a neat system and are relatively new. Some of them can be
activated and completed by just visiting waypoints and clicking on things,
like the What a Piece of Junk collection. Others are from killing things
(the Order 66 collection requires you to kill 200 NPC jedi of varying rank)
or from actually collecting items (Jedi Artifact Collections require you to
find holocrons that are randomly looted from force sensitive NPCs).

Oh well, I've got some bantha DNA & various Isos; just need to forage

Just to a new profession, or any time you go back & forth? With only 2

slots they really should have made it a once-off charge for each new
prof you switch to, but I have a feeling you meant each & every switch.
Is there a cap on the cost?

really notice a great deal of dmg mitigation when I went out & faced the

He, he, so how exactly does it work? And what are all those /way macro

Cool - will set it up as soon as I by the ultimate pack & sub for a
month (probably tomorrow or Thursday when I can have a play for a good
long stretch).

Saw some of those hanging in someone's place I think. Man, I'm just
looking fwd to the Acolyte robes lol!

So do I just search for "+35" on the bazaar, or just go for "Shirt" or

Crazy! I can't even imagine what 1 million looks like! :)

I might go some of the distance until I get stuck or bored. Just want a
cute sidekick companion for I don't feel so lonely all the time, that
can pull its weight a bit. I usually play pet classes in mmos.

Yeah, that was the 3rd buff, the +15%xp - gratis too. Said he doesn't
charge newbs as a rule :)))

Had someone do a flyby buff of all my stats & health/APs a few days ago
- 15min duration for 1000s of points each. Sadly I had to log right then
& never had a chance to slice & dice with the temp buffs.

Oh yeah baby!!! Now, if only you could return teleport back like with D2
TPs ;). Tx for this - will be my first collection quest, though getting
around with a landspeeder/swoop is pretty fast to most ports (well, on
Tatooine anyway).

Btw, will I need to be a certain min lvl to get to all of those or get
insta-killed on other planets lol?

The second picture (with all the people) was what was known as a buff house,
and they did charge admission to get in (I think it was 50,000 credits) -
but the admission price also got you a full set of buffs which lasted for a
long time (upwards of 4 hours). They have since changed the buff system
dramatically.

Your best bet would be to sit down with the RE guide and find out how to
make your own +35 power bits. Once you have a full set of power bits, which
I believe is either 9 or 11, you can take them to a tailor (with the
appropriate loot items, read the guide) and have a set of clothes made with
them. Otherwise a full set of +35 clothes will cost anywhere from 10-20
million. There is a category in the bazaar/vendor search for SEAs (skill
enhancing attachments) which would probably help you out.

You can get a combat droid to hang out with you, too (or a zillion other
kinds of droids). You don't need anything special to use them.

> Yeah, that was the 3rd buff, the +15%xp - gratis too. Said he doesn't

Most entertainers will buff noobs for free, but it's still good practice to
tip them something. You could say something to the effect of "I'm new and
don't have much money" and then tip a few hundred or a few thousand credits.
On my entertainer, I average 10,000-20,000 per buff. Oh, and stay away from
entertainers who charge cover fees.

These would have been medic buffs. They're incredibly powerful, but don't
last very long unless the medic has really good gear.

Nope. All the waypoints are actually inside starports. You don't even have
to walk outside!

Hope you're having fun so far.

Wow! Cool idea though, the way SWG makes players dependent on each other
for buffs, but doesn't force them to group if they don't want to in
order to get them.

Ooooh nice, my own R2-D2 style cute one, or one of them wanky Episode
1-3 skinny humanoid ones? The only cool ones were the rolling Destroyer
droids - can I get one of them to pace me on my swoop bike through the
wilderness? <G>

At lvl 70+ I imagine 10-20K is 5-10 mins work? Which is a small price to
pay to add the equivalent of several levels in buffs to you for 4-5 hrs
(or the entire play session virtually). Great in-game design them
entertainers. Is it a lot of work to level your own? I take it you get
xp & gain lvls from buffing ppl, w/o ever having to set foot outside a
cantina? Shame you can't buff yourself with the one account, whereas a
2nd trader char on the same account is totally useful, assuming you can
craft stuff for your main & just mail it to yourself (& raws from the
main to the trader).

On the subject of traders, how do they go about doing all the surveying
& hunting for raws in the wilderness, if they aren't very good at
combat? i.e. could I level a trader from scratch & be self-sufficient,
apart from some minor trading/buying with/from other players or via the
bazaar? Why did they make the bazaar have a 20K limit on auctions/sales?
Odd design choice.

So far so very good. It's sad that a SW fan who has seen the original
movie over 100 times (I kid you not, I stopped actually counting at
70-something so estimate, so know it's probably well over 100 actually
*blush*) hasn't played this game before. Unforgivable really, heh.

The RE (reverse engineering) guide I'm referring to is on the SWG Craft
site. Here's a direct link:
http://www.swgcraft.co.uk/dev/re_guides.php

There are all kinds of droid types available including the R2 style, med
droid, protocol, mouse, probe, and even the droideka.

Yes, at higher levels the credits roll in a bit faster.

Leveling an entertainer just takes time. You can set them up with a macro
and just leave it on ovenight. You get xp by just dancing/playing music
while using "flourishes". You have to be at the keyboard to buff someone
though.

You can't mail items, but you can use a house to hold everything and just
add both of your characters to the Admin list.

Traders get their asses handed to them in combat, so surveying can be a bit
of a pain sometimes. I suggest a suit of armor, powerful rifle (for the
distance) and buffs. It's usually not too bad if you can fight one thing at
a time. My trader usually goes out alone without much of a problem.

The 20k bazaar limit has always been in place, most likely to encourage
vendor use so that crafters were more involved in the game.

No, what is unforgivable is all the people who play SWG who have never seen
the movies.

I thought I saw some AFK entertainer asking for 10K just to 'buy in' or
something. What was I going to get for that if he's not there? Or was he
just scammin? :-/

Cool. It was 2 chars per server/galaxy, right?

I think I'll start with a trader as I'm not much of a creative 'entertainer'
type heh.

Which is great until the population dies down...

*boggle*

Then again, lots of nuff nuffs playing LOTRO who never read the books &
probably haven't even seen the movies, from what I've gathered. Hard to
imagine, yeah.

Catch you online soon I hope - today was a disaster & I didn't get much time
to myself to sub :(.

You can buy them from a Droid Engineer (trader). I'm not sure about any of
the reqs.

Entertainers can charge a cover fee with the regular interface, but it isn't
used and is generally frowned upon in the entertainer community. I'm not
sure why. It's been around for a long time.

Yes, unless you unlocked jedi before the NGE - then you get a free character
slot.
