Hey guys, was just minding my own business when all of a sudden the
Tribes 2 songs I have MP3s of cycled through my 'Party Shuffle' playlist
in iTunes. Inescapably, I resinstalled the game and thankfully
remembered my login and password (as it was bound to the only CD key I had).

Man, what memories reading all my old T2 E-mail from 2001! There aren't
a whole ton of servers either... seemed about 10 to 20 tops that were
worth playing on.

But when I played, I played Ninjamod. And no, there are no longer any
servers that use Ninjamod anymore. Not that I saw anyways. So I was
wondering where I could find the latest Ninjamod client to install and
perhaps run a server of my own? Their main site is long dead, and
otherwise I can't really find much on Google.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks- and see you all on the
battlefield... maybe.

Count on *that*. I swear to Bob, I thought the guy was kidding
about "Ninjamod" until I got to the bottom of his post.

Thank you, O' Mighty Tribes Gods, for letting that mod escape
my attention.

Though you guys seem to be pretty stellar at hitting the 'post' button,
the actual contents of your posts seem to be underwhelming to say the
least. Pardon my being frank; my personal tastes in games should not
make me a target when all I asked was a simple question.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really mad at all. However I find it odd you
guys go out of your way to ignore my question and spit on the subject
I'm asking about- which really shouldn't be a factor in answering the
question in the first place. Am I doing some malicious by wanting to
play Ninjamod again?

I'd appreciate a little respect here, a simple "Sorry, never played it"
if you simply HAVE to post at all.

Don't bother. While my initial, harmless question has been ignored my
other inqueries were answered through some simple logic-

I guess some folks will just talk just to hear themselves talk,
regardless if its on subject with anything.

Wait, we can close subjects on Usenet? Awesome.

As for why no one answered, it's probably because no one knows, or
because no one cares. I've never even heard of the mod, so I couldn't
provide feedback. The nature of Usenet, though, is about 90% noise to
10% signal, I'd guess. In a "mature" newsgroup like this (mature
indicating the age of the group, not the maturity level of the
participants), the noise level is higher, with signal easily dropping
below 5% most times. People like to chatter, and having nothing of
value to say will respond with drivel. That's how to communicate in
here.

I don't remember you really, but do recognize the handle, so I'm
guessing you've posted here in the past. If that's the case, then you
should already know about the off-topic tendency of this group. I'm a
little surprised you felt the need to post so much about how others
were posting off-topic. Just seemed a bit ironic to me.

That is a moderately positive representation of Usenet, these days. And
it depends on your definition of noise. The rec.arts.sf.robert-jordan
newsgroup, for example, is currently terminally ill (ironically, just
like Jordan himself at the moment; it's even money which has the longer
lifespan).

But rasfwr-j, as it was affectionately known by people who could
translate "YKYBRTMRASFWR-JW you know what rasfwr-j means" without
blinking, was full of offtopic posts in its heyday, what with a two year
release cycle for the main books. The off-topic posts were clearly
delimited, and provided insightful commentary on everything from the
Oscars to the proper way to engage in a ground war in the Middle East.
Not noise by my book.

It was also the source of one of the better (if not longer) pieces of
Usenet fiction:

I have been coming here for a while and have posted a few times, yes. I
do know the group is fairly casual-- and like any gaming web forum
discussing the game for so long can get boring to the point where there
literally is not much left to discuss. I am tied to a couple of forums
in this situation, so I know. I'm not really asking any of you stop and
whip out the Tribes manuals here and get completely ontopic, but a
little help or pointing in the right direction is just respectful and in
the honest nature of USEnet.

But in the end it really shouldn't be an excuse to flood out that other
10% signal, right? ;) Don't be surprised to see more people like myself
who haven't played the game in years and have come back to it only to
need their mind refreshed on a certain element while they cannot find a
page on Google, or sites they've known are now dead (which is what
happened to me).

Man, what a pathetic attempt at trying to act macho on a newsgroup.
'Tell it to someone that cares'. I can tell you've been a little TOO
casual around here with 'insults' like that. And you somehow do it after
I made sure I formatted my post in a semi-friendly conversive nature.

Miracle made it seem like you were going to come in and give me a verbal
lashing of wit, rage, patience, logic, dexterity and all around
tride-and-true USEnet trolling... but all I got was a good laugh. I
don't mind listening to a rather boisterous troll as long as his posts
are entertaining and funny, but you just suck.

No really... I'm flattered. And don't think I'll be monitoring your
bigguyonnewsgroup troll posts to see when you do portray 'effort'- you
know, just to make sure you're not bluffing me ;) Of course you wouldn't
be bluffing.

By the way, your guys' hatred for Ninjamod astounds me. Before you told
me, in true imbecile elitst USEnet style, to go look to Google for my
answers... when I have a number of times that no more Ninjamod sites
exist... it was apparent to me that you hadn't really read any of my
posts, and just immediately get red in the face once you saw 'Ninjamod'
in the topic line. Truly amazing!

Look kid, this group has a long history of abusing folks who favor
those stupid mods in Tribes, and if you'd done your homework
properly, you'd have known better than to ask for help with that
rediculous Ninja crap in here.
You needn't worry about the folks who come in here and ask for
help with a *serious* aspect of the game, because they get our full
attention and we do our best to provide an answer.
You need only look at my reply about hosting to see that.

Only a ROFL? Must be the popcorn putting you to sleep. :D

My favorite fictional portrayal of Usenet was in Vernor Vinge's novel "A
Fire Upon the Deep", where he mentions its other name, the Network of a
Thousand Lies. Chapters often start and stop with clueless "postings" from
random planets and newsgroups following the progress of the protaganists as
they travel between the stars.

I just know I'm missing something here- a hexapod can have
six legs OR six feet.

Hmmm..., six feet under?

Augh! I need more time to read, methinks.

Hint: Noone knew what the hell ol' Twirlip of the Mists was talking about.

I often go with public transport in 30-minute bursts, which leaves 30
minutes at a time to read. Being able to just put down a book
mid-sentence and being able to pick it back up with full context
restored is a useful skill to have.

If you want to read SciFi, I can recommend Vinge. Nice, easy style. If
you read the _Marooned in Realtime_ books, you'll be almost in
recognizable times. If you go for the _A Deepness in the Sky_ and
(especially) _A Fire Upon The Deep_, you're in for a treat in
speculative fiction, with great aliens.

Another recommendation is Iain M. Banks, and then mostly his books about
the Culture. Good author, whose mainstream works are often filed under
'literature' rather than any specific genre.

I envy you! I could never do that, and still can't. I forget too much
when I stop frequently. :(

I've got quite a stack of unread books you and Mr K have
recommended, as well as a few of the ones by King, Grafton,
and Asimov I want to get to. The Asimovs will be re-reads,
but he's so brilliant........ :)

<sigh> Not enough hours in a day. Next to sci-fi, my favorite
reads are good murder mysteries, or mysteries in general. I know
there's not a single Christie I haven't read, and I'm a bit fond of
Higgins-Clark.

I often have 2-3 going at once. My car book (to keep it from breaking down;
it only breaks down if I don't have a book), my bedroom book, my office
book, ....

Sometimes I'll put one aside when something else more interesting turns up
(ie. a favorite author) and return to it later.

I can do this with craft or needlework projects, but not books. I
keep a bag packed with everything I need to crochet cotton dishcloths,
to grab in the event of a "road trip". Keeping my hands busy helps to
prevent me from seeing all the wacko drivers on the road while Ross
drives. :o}
I have a sewing/mending basket in the living room, as well as one
with small cross stitch projects. Alas, the house is awash right now
with the remnants of Easter card making. o.O
I should have them all ready to mail by Tuesday, as well as the
package I keep forgetting to send Fabrice's Justine. :(

I have just sat it in the middle of the dining table, so it's in clear view.
Surely I won't forget it again. I hope.

Damn I'm getting senile............
