It would appear only a very few dedicated people still take the time and
effort posting real and useful, or truly entertaining stuff to the
newsgroup, Steve Wolter obviously being one of them. Although I had not yet
been around for a very long time and it is quite possible not a single
person will remember a thing I posted, a serious doubt has risen within my
mind: is even simply lurking worth the effort? To have to plough through all
the nonsensical posts by either the AA, someone who is possibly far worse
than the AA because he has dedicated his life to fighting it by making up
even more absurd postings, or an unknown troll, just to get ONE decent piece
of info is not the way. Things should and could be different. All of this
would of course not be that bad, if people were just polite enough to
announce the miraculous things they apparently have to say are not in any
way starcraft related by typing a simple [OT] before the subject of their
amazing findings. Sometimes, it can even be fun to read the off topic
posts... but this is not, in any way, the case if it is not what you are
looking for. Naturally, the people who should actually think about this post
have either stopped reading it (let alone tried doing the thinking part) or
are currently busy writing some hilarious flames and general insults not
based on anything. Truly, I would be very, very surprised if this posting
would recieve more than two serious replies.
There is no rule that says everything you post has to be serious and no
jokes can be made. Indeed, AGSC would become a very dull and very dead
newsgroup would this be the case. However, too much of anything will only
be, or become, something with a negative influence. Right now, nonsense has
tainted just about every post made to AGSC and this is simply not good, for
a group that, according to it’s name, centers it’s discussions around
starcraft. Don’t say this is how newsgroups work, for this is simply not
true. Many, and actually almost all, as it would occur to me, newsgroups
have got healthy discussions about their main topic(s), with humour and some
competitive, but funny and always more or less respecting flames going back
and forth, but written by people who *actually also make a contribution to
the group*. Where, I ask myself, are all these people in AGSC? Are they
hiding, or are they just not there? Can it be this group just holds a
population that is less advanced and less mature than the one in just about
all other newsgroups? Come on, people: although nonsense and random flames
may seem to be fun for a while, eventually they will destroy a group. If all
speak nonsense, it will soon not be funny anymore. This cannot be what it is
you are after, for it would affect us all, AA, lurker, regulars and other
posters alike.
If you are to respond to this, or any, post, do so with some logic behind
your thinking.

It's all about the fine line between OT and OT. Off topic, and On
topic.
More On Topic, the more boring it gets. I mean, with a game that's
older than a year now, every question that gets asked in here, has
been asked before.
Off Topic brings in something new. Now AGSC goes through periods of
great OT, when there is next to none On Topic posts. One of these
periods is approaching. But don't worry, in about a week/month,
everything will be back to normal.
Until then, I suggest you try checking out ABGSC.

This NG has always been that way, it is only about 5-6 people causing all the
probs (so called 'regs' who don't even play SC). The biggest problem this NG has
is the philosophy that newbies/lurkers are not welcome and are treated as
such...and yeah the offtopic nonsense is becoming annoying...a good way to clean
up your headers, is to put the Ironic Army (formally AA) on your ignore
list...but that will not help the group only you.
I believe that some offtopic is nessacary for a NG, but when the off-topic out
weighs the
on-topic something is seriously wrong...and everyone here knows my suggestion
for that.

So you think the more popular easy to find NG (AGSC) should contain a bunch of
off-topic crap and the difficult to find and get NG(ABGSC) should be where SC
stuff goes? Is that so you (a troll) and the AA can live happily ever after in
AGSC? It's obvious you want this NG too die Outsider...just admit it

You really can't blame one person. I mean, there's nothing special
about it. Some are AGTSers and others are AGSCers - it's obvious what
will eventually happen.

As the signal/noise ratio of this group gets lower, more people
dedicated to ON topic stuff will leave... Also note that SC is a
somewhat old game already, and this NG has pretty much debated and
discussed everything that's possible about SC... ;-) I personally do
however reply to on topic discussions, when i feel that sudden urge
that they are wrong and that i need to correct them... ;-)

As the majority of this group consists of male teenage geeks, that
might be very true... Then again, most of the readers in gaming NGs
consist of male teenage geeks. It depends on what you compare to...

Not this one. We've had our periods of X-posts to alt.troll, invasions
from MEOW and all kinds of other nasty stuff, yet this group is still
at the same point where it was before those things happened =)

Why would I want to insult you for expressing your opinion? Apart from

I *learn* (about SC) from the group more than I contribute (although I
have done so on occasion - when the question was simple enough) because
I am still a relative newcomer to the game.

There you are right - but take heart. Without the fun and games, most of
the regulars would drift away because they would get fed up of answering
the same questions all the time. At least this way they are still here
when the newbies need help.

Um, I don'r know if you know this, but...
A - To me, it seems like you're a troll. Why? Because you
intentionally recrossposted your reply, when it was in fact, not
needed. Explain to me, why the opinion of alt.mobilehome is in anyway
important to the well being, of AGSC?
B - Well to be honest, I used up this point in A, but still. Whether
or not AGSC is OT does not concern alt.troll or alt.mobilehome or
alt.curley-town. It's certainly a interesting situation. First, a
whole bunch of trolls (hence the constant re-adding of alt.troll to
