Starcraft and Broodwar

Whilst I wait for my newly purchased Starcraft to arrive (yes I know i'm
behind the times as usual)

If I don't have Broodwar is this going to effect how much I can play on
Multiplayer?

Is Broodwar worth getting?

What are worth while links to check out, whilst I wait?

Appreciate any thoughts.

I've had fun doing the campaign levels without using the new units (in
a few cases you can't do without, but mostly you can). I started it
because for some reason, whenever a defiler appears on my monitor, SC
quits to the desktop, so I couldn't use defilers. Any ideas on what
could cause this?
