These are the second last two of well comparable units; if you notice
a lack of maths, that is just because splash is very important among
these units, and I can't calculate splash :-(

Well, here are their stats:
Name Size Sup. Min. Gas Armor HP SP
Att. Cool Range Sight BT
Valkyrie L 3 250 125 2 200 0
5es 64 6 8 60
Corsair M 2 150 100 1 100 80
5es 8 5 9 40

Counting the supply as 12.5 minerals per point, the average ratio
between valkyries and corsairs is (287.5/175+125/100)/2 = 8/12 (not
exact, but exact enough). In that ratio, the following duels are
possible:

When valkyries and corsairs are fighting mutalisks, the corsairs
perform slightly better.

When valkyries and corsairs fight wraiths, the corsairs were that much
stronger it wasn't even funny anymore.

Against scouts, the corsair won clearly.

Against each other, the valkyrie won.

After upgrades, the corsair is even better and wins against the
valkyrie, too.

After these facts are give, what do they tell us?
Usually, the terran player has an early advantage in regard to air
troops. He can kill wraiths, scouts, corsairs and mutalisks easily.
But as the upgrades grow, both corsairs and valkyries are getting
worse. They still kill wraiths, scouts and unsupported mutalisks, but
that group gets problems.

In regard to damage, both units are approximately the same. The
valkyrie does a little bit more splash, the corsair does direct damage
to one unit.

Maybe some of the duels (for example vs. mutalisks) were affected by
the sprite bug; there were a lot of mutalisks needed to be a threat to
12 corsairs. But anyway, both units are pretty good in their purpose.

The only units that could mean any danger to these two are carriers,
BC's and devourers with mutalisk support.

The corsair has his disruption web, making him way more useful than
the valkyrie.

If you are playin a team game, your team has zerg an toss and the other
team is goin heavy air, your best choice ist building devourers +
corsairs. Due to the corsairs high fire rate, the inrease-damage-effect
of the acid spores really kicks ass to all carriers an BCs.

you know, just the other day i played a game with shag where maybe 12 sairs
took out over 36 of my wraiths in less than 5 seconds...and the sairs were
emp'd too.

sairs completely own wraiths...

I don't know, since
a) valkyries are much worse in small numbers, so it had been unfair.
b) for 8 valkyries, it needed a lot of mutalisks to kill these, and
the sprite bug hit me...

The group :-)

The 8 valkyries killed the 12 corsairs.

As long as you have no upgrades. With upgrades, corsairs are still
better, but if you spread out the wraiths, you can win.

Late game, the only choice for terran against corsairs is the BC, if
you are stuck to air.

Ahhh... yes. I remember it quite well. The screams of your pilots as their
cockpits ruptured in flames.. your ground units being shredded to pieces by my
reavers.. ahhh, war...

That highly depends on the number of units. In smaller numbers, the
corsairs have advantage thanks to their higher rate of fire(but
smaller splash), since they kill units faster that way. Valks in small
numbers on the other hand deal damage somewhat slowly to individual
units, but once in larger numbers, a single salvo can usually
eliminate a horde of mutas...

This is true... ;-)

Well, depends on the numbers. 2 scouts per 3 corsairs, if you count on
gas... It also depends a lot on the micro: If the scouts are spread
out, they will beat the corsairs.

Thanks to the valks armor... 3 damage isn't just enough, the armor
helps a lot when countering the splash of the corsair.

Yep... =(
Valks suck majorly(aside from that they suck completely) after armor
upgrades kick in.

And is a lot cheaper than the valkyrie.

Exactly.
4 valkyries vs. 6 corsairs had no chance.

I've just tested which of the two is performing better vs. scouts.

IIRC they do no direct damage at all.

Yeah, but in combat, they perform both quite good. Ok, never send a
lonely valkyrie, but when numbers grow...
Just remember that valkyries are bad as long as the sprite bug is in
game.

I have yet to see that... Of course, i've never seen 30 or so corsairs
go up against a full pack of BCs...

Trust me, 30 or more sairs versus 12 battlecruisers, sairs win.
Most people with 12 BCs have them packed together, which, of course, helps
out the corsairs infinitely. Tell all the sairs to attack 3 different BCs
and about 5 BCs die in a short while.

Nah, 'cause like the guy said, if they're bunched up, the splash damage will do
them in fast. Most people aren't smart enough to attack individually -- I use
a-move until I'm under attack.

Then, that one marine that strolls out can kill all the corsairs and
Devourers in the world.

If Island, this isn't a bad idea. Otherwise, I'd mix in guardians and
scouts/carriers so that you can actually take a building.
