VCD= Video CD yes a movie. sometimes 1 or 2 discs per movie (pretty sure its
usually 2) the fifth element was 2... for a psx-- you just need the vcd
player-attachment you can find them on the net. of course i belive that most
GOOD DVD players will play them also. -nealrs

Greetings...
Unless Im terribly mistaken VCD stands for "Virtual CD". It is a program
that makes a "mirror" of a CD-ROM on your hard drive, check the size of the
file (up to 650MB+) if u have the space. The program (Virtual CD-ROM from
Logicraft.com) fools windows into believing that you have an extra CD-ROM
drive (V: or whatever u name it) and you can load and playback any CD-ROM as
u please. I have the program and it works damn well.

Regards
Patrick

I think it actually means Video Compact Disc - it's like a DVD disc that
plays movies. That's just what I found out.

It is actually alot simpler that any of that... It jsut means "video
CD" and is a CD that has video encoded with MPEG-1 (a compressoin
routine inferiour to DVD's MPEG-2)

The real questions should be why??
What (other than asian porn) can you get on VCD... Especially in
America???

No, VCD in terms of a PSX means Video CD. THe format never took off here
in the US but in Asia, there are tons of VCD stores selling cheap copies
of MPEG-1 compressed movies. It's impressive really, I got The Truman
Show thre before the movie was even released in theaters here.

A VCD is simply a Video CD. It a normal CD-ROM that you can put in
computer and has one mpeg file that takes up the whole disk. It never
took off in america because one CD can only hold about 45 minutes of
video. But in Asia, after finding out that 45 minutes is exactly how
long your average asian prono is, it is now the midea of choice of asian
pronography. That was pretty much the nail in the coffin for VCDs to
ever become a standerd over here. It's a shame too. Asian pron is very
classy over there. Espcally the Japanese stuff. but I digresss.

What you need to play a VCD:

1) a PC with MPEG playing capibilities.
2) A sega saturen with an MPEG chip (it goes where the battery goes)
3) A Sony Playstation with the VCD mode plugged into it.

Reccomened Japenese pron stars:

Ai Iijima
Joh Asami
Bunko Kanazawa
Yumi Katsuragi
Naoko Iikima
(Well, naoko isn't really a porn star, she is very pretty non the less.
You can also get VCDs of Japanese Idols)

Hope this helps

VCD = Video CD....In this context at least....You need a good PC with a fast
videocard to play them.

like all the other replys here have said..its a video cd, they tend to
be less then vhs quality ("bootlegs" like what the guy got of truman
show before it came out in theaters are worse). In the US they are
quite useless cept for a few old hits and The porn market is pretty
big in video cd. (alot more then asian too, vivid has a huge library).

To play them... a good P200 or faster is all thats needed..software is
free since Microsofts new Media player 5.2 wich you can download has
full video cd mpeg1 decompression. You can get a video cd adapter for
your PSX but its general not worth it unless your PC sucks balls.

I also seen a few anime titles on VCD, however they have stopped
selling them in most stores. You could try online though.

You can play VCDs (Video CDs) with a PC CD-ROM, there are a number of
players out there.
I use a reasonably simple one called powervcd. I think this plays CDR VCDs
as well. (don't quote me on that though)
I know it's not for PSX but if you can get to a computer you may have access
to a CD-ROM.

Yeah, I Have Xing to play Vcdson the PC, but I want the ability to play on a
bigger screen (via the PSX as it appears to be quite a cheap option compared
to a dedicated VCD player)

http://www.anthrox.com/ was fast, pleasant to deal with, and all-around
helpful. Still note: On their page, it says that their VCD player doesn't
require a modchip to use, but it does if you don't want to swap discs.

Actually, with a good VCD player (or even the PSX add-on) the quality
matches that of VHS. PC's without hardware MPEG support don't play VCD's
very smoothly. Many new movies can be ordered very cheaply over the
internet.

I got one in Australia.. works very well. Don't pay more than $135 for
one.

VCDs are MPEG layer 1 video files

and DVD are MPEG layer 2 video files, and are far superior in picture
quality.

This is true, but the most important factor is the quality of the transfer made to
the VCD. For instance the VCDs made by Phillips for the CD-i are of excellent
quality and are difficult to tell apart from VHS. I have seen many VCDs imported
from Hong Kong and Malaysia that are very poorly transferred and have a lot of
pixilation and blurring during the movie. The best use for a VCD player IMO is to
watch the cool Anime cartoons from Japan.
