Hi

I have a 9002 (UK) Playstation.

I bought a Team Mad Catz 'Multiport for the Playstation' recently for
use in 4-player games. I was assured that it was 100% compatible with
Sony equipment (all of my controllers are Sony).

It seems to work fine with 'International Track and Field' (all 4
controllers work), and with non-Multitap games the first controller
port works fine (as it is supposed to, indicating that the hardware is
OK) but I cannot get it to work at all with 'Crash Team Racing'.

When I have 1 or 2 controllers plugged in (with no Multi-Port) the game
works fine.

But when the Multiport is plugged in, I cannot get past the language
selection screen - nothing works, no direction buttons or any other
buttons. Not even the first controller works (as it is supposed to if a
game is non-multitap compatible).

Is this a problem specific to Crash Team Racing? Will it only work with
a Sony Multitap? Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks for your advice.

It's a problem with the Mad Catz Multi-tap.

My copy of CTR would not work with an aftermarket multitap. Works fine
with the Sony multitap.

I had a similair experience with Formula One 99 and a non-Sony 'dual shock'
type controller - game stopped at the language select screen.

Pardon the conspiracy theory, but I suspect this is no accident.

I think you should've just stayed with the genuine Sony Multitap. It
worked perfectly fine with my CTR and 4 Dual Shock controllers plugged
in. Sure, it costs you like 10 bucks more, but hey, at least it's
approved by Sony themselves.

CTR does work with the Sony multitap - I've tried it. Often with
multi-taps it's the configuration you've put them in. I assumed that
you have tried the bleeding obvious with the multi-tap in port 1 -
also with it in port 2. Also remember to remove the memory card from
Port 1. The Sony multi-tap has an extented lip on the connector so
that you can't plug it in with a memory card - however it is
physically possible to force it in.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have now taken the Multiport back to the shop and got my money back
as it is NOT 100% compatible with all Multitap games, as the box
suggests. The guy in the shop was quite insistent that it should work
with Crash Team Racing, but this is obviously wrong.

I have since picked up a proper Sony Multitap which works fine.

Lesson of the day - caveat emptor.

Cheers
