OK, I've been wanting to get a Pocketstation to play the FF8 mini
game. But I'm guessing it'll be between $60 and $100 to get one
imported. My only concern is that damn battery problem that stopped
them from releasing it here in the states.

Is the Pocketstation NOT rechargeable or something? I can deal with
it not having a very long play time if that's the problem. I just
don't want to get it if you have to keep buying special batteries for
it.

The Pocket Station is the PDA for the PlayStation. It has a 32x32 pixel LCD
display, four direction buttons, 2 buttons, and a reset button. It also has
an IR interface. It has 1M of save space, standard PSX memory card. It plugs
into the memory card port on the PlayStation. It keeps time, date, etc, can
change channels on your TV (heard this, don't know for sure) and plays
PocketStation games. You download PocketStation games off of certain
PlayStation games (Street Fighter Zero 3, the re-release Rockman sreies, Saga
Frontier 2, R4, Fire Pro G, etc.) or special PocketStation CDs (Pocket MuuMuu,
Pocket chocobo's Dungeon, etc.). They sell for 3,800 yen in Japan and
anywhere from $50-$70 in the US. They come in two styles, white or crystal.
If you want one oyu can get them from http://videogame.com.hk/ for $45,
http://www.buyrite1.com for $50 (although I don't recomend them since I have
has nothing but trouble dealing with them. You could also check
http://www.tronixweb.com or http://www.ncsx.com both of those are excellent
companies.

You can't. The R4 PocketStation program is a utility to trade cars with your
friends. ASFAIK, most PocketStation games were removed from the US versions
of the games. Street Fighter Alpha 3 does have Pocket Alpha on the CD, but
you need a Game Shark code to get to it.

There is a working PocketStation emulator, you can get it at
http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_pocketstation.htm . It runs the R4 program
fine as far as I can tell, but it's pretty useless on an emulator. The R4
program was the only one I found on the internet. You can use a Dex Drive to
get the PocketStation games off of your PocketStation or memory card on to
your PC. I forget what format they have to converted to, but I know after the
conversion they have to be renamed to the .bin extension to work on the
emulator.

From what I have read, it takes much more work to completely remove the
PocketStation code from a game, than just to note a disclaimer in the
instructions of PocketStation compatible games. FFVIII has a
PocketStation game also (course it will not allow you to save the
Pocketstaion game on a standard memory card). The only games I knew of
that were in the US were....Something for one of the new Street Fighter
games (not sure what it does), R4 (just trades cars), and FFVIII (mini
chocobo adventure to find items and Mog that can then be put into
FFVIII).

Got the Crystal one myself.

I didn't mean that the PocketStation game was removed form the NTSC/UC version, I
meant that the option has been taken out of the menus. Pocket Zero (on the Street
Fihter Zero 3 CD) lets you train your fighter and gain experience points. Pocket
Alpha was planned to be in Street Fighter Alpha 3's menu, so it was translated and
put on the CD. But they then took it off the menu in the final version. You can
access the download screen with a Game Shark code created by ff_flash. If anyone
wants a list of most of the Japanese games with PocketStation games on the CD, or
any info on the PocketStation itself go to my site at http://come.to/mighta
