I am a new purchaser of Sim City 2000 and I'm wondering
if anyone is reading and willing to post on this newsgroup.

Looks like it has been real quiet lately.

Well. SimCity 2000 is ancient by gaming standards, and several sequels
have come out. Personally, I went directly from the Original SimCity to
SimCity 3000, so I've no experiences with SimCity 2000.

I still prefer SimCity 2000. What's your query?

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Woooo, Sorry that I missed your response for couple weeks.

#1 I had 'adequate' fire departments.
I built an airport. There was a crash & fire.
Fire just kept going and burned for years and destroyed everything!
How do I control that?

Check whether your fire departments had adequate coverage of the area in
question. Make sure that your fire department had adequate funding.
I've never played SimCity 2000, and it's been a long while since I
played SimCity 3000, but I remember that SC3000 differed from SimCity in
that each fire station allowed you to place one fire fighting token on
the map, anywhere you wanted, and that you had to place these tokens
near fires to put them out. Does SimCity 2000 work the same way?

Use the 'Dispatch Firefighter Tool' in the left toolbar :-)

Thanks to both of you for your responses.
I'm sure I will have more questions.

Have fun. I might have to fire up SC2K in DOSbox again, this weekend in
memory of Maxis

RIP. but the legacy lives on.

Meanwhile, another question.
How many tiles at $250 each do you have to zone
for an airport, to have an airport start, and develop?

I have notes for SimCity 3000 which indicate that you need a minimum of
a 3x5 area covered with airport tiles. I don't know how applicable that
would be SC 2000.

Airports won't grow unless they're at least 4x6 and have plenty of
power.

You may have figured things out by now, but for posterity, here is some more info from memory. For very large fires, you can bulldoze a fire break around them. Just like in real life. I think you must also bulldoze the rubble though after bulldozing buildings. Rubble might burn, allowing the fire to jump the break. If you need to dispatch more firefighters, you can build more fire stations. I think you get one firefighter dispatch per station, unless you get two. As the fire gets put out, you must move the firefighters since they will only put out fires in tiles immediately adjacent to them.
