I wish to run simcity from my hd so I don't have to hunt around for the cd
each time. i have copied all the files from my disk to a partition of the hd
and installed it from there. I had thought this would mean that on entering
trhe program it would take the info it needs from the copy of my cd on the
second partition from where it was installed.

Sadly this is not the case. each time I try to run it it asks for the cd.

is there anyway round this.

TIA

jack

maybe the way you do is wrong...you should uninstall your simcity first
(make sure backup ur saved files) then copy the cd in the folder that you
created and then install the simcity from the hard disk and not from the cd.
i hope it's work... i tried it before.. then copy back ur saved files in
back the folder and the that's all.

Having the CD in the CDROM drive is part of the copy protection. It will be
tough to defeate.

Really? How come I can just go download a no CD crack and run it without
the CD, then?

By the way, I own the game, I don't use a no CD crack, but I could if I
wanted to!

I never said it was impossible, just tough.

I know about these so called CD cracks, I am just not sure if one is
available for this game.

Not knowing anything about your system there are three reasons why this game
may run slowly, in order of most likely to least:
1. Not enough memory.
2. Slow processor.
3. Slow graphics card.

You will notice that the CD is not in the list. This is because the game is
not using the CD for much during game play.

PII 400
256mb ram
32mb ATI card
DVD/Cd drive
SB live 5.1

I've heard there is a way to play the gam while listening to music from
another cd. does anyone know how to do this. if this can be done then i
presume i can play the game without the cd in the drawer.

Jack,

There seem to be a couple of programs out on the market that will let
you copy a whole CD to your hard drive, and let it be accessed the same
as if the original CD was in the CD drive - they make an image of the CD
and store on the hard drive.

Then when you run the program, it ends up seeing the image, and it looks
to the program as if the original CD was in the drive. Eliminates the
need to have the original CD available. Unfortunately, it will not work
for every CD out on the market, but will for most of them.

You might want to look at these programs, and see if they would work as
you are looking for.

Simple. Play the game off your primary CD drive, and stick your tunes in
your RW drive.

Or you could do what I do: play the game on one computer, and use an old one
for music. Just make sure that when you replace your computer, you keep
your old one around. After all, it's not like you can sell it.

Cracks to run the game without CD are available at www.megagames.com
Search for Simcity 3000 in the cracks section. They also have a 1
mill. cash cheat trainer. Be forewarned that running the crack results
in loss of in-game music only. Sound FX runs perfectly. However, you
can choose to play mp3s in the background by starting Winamp or your
MP3 player before starting the game.

Sparky

Yeah, you can run 3k from hard drive, as long as you START IT wif the CD
