Does a Japanese Pocketstation work with an American Street Fighter Alpha 3?

Does anyone know? I read at Gamefaqs that you needed a GameShark to
do it, but can anyone confirm that I can access Pocket Alpha 3 just by
plugging in a PocketStation?? Thanks!

No, you still need a GS to unlock the mode itself.
Supposedly there's a real code, but since SCEA
won't be releasing the Pocketstation stateside,
Capcom decided not to release the code at all.

However, the Pocketstation itself works fine with
the US PSX, there's no hardware lockout at all.
