Like Morrigan, Demitri seems to be one of the most badly played characters
I've seen. He may seem like Ken/Ryu from Street Fighter fame, but should not
be used in the same way. Demitri, if used like Ken/Ryu, makes Night Warriors
difficult or impossible to have fun and/or win. Hopefully after you've read
this, you should be able to do well with, "The King of the Night."
His victory quotes are:
"Your pathetic attempts to defeat me were truly laughable!"
"Your blood is even weaker than you! I will not let it stain my lips!"
"You fought nobly and were nobly beaten!"
"Fool! There can only be one true Lord of the Night!"
Demitri's moves are as follows:
Demon Cradle
------------
--O | \ + punch (or all three punch for the Super version).
O O
-Use this move to defeat most jumping or airborne attacks or to hit
ground-based opponents that are standing near Demitri.
-As you are probably well aware, this move is very similar to Ken/Ryu's
"Dragon Punch." Though it may seem similar, do not treat it as such. There
are many moves such as Jumping Jabs, Jumping Shorts, Felicia's Delta Kick, or
Lord Raptor's Skull Blade that can hit Demitri out of his Demon Cradle. Be
aware of this if you see your opponent attack you with these moves. These are
not the only moves that will hit the Demon Cradle. I'm sure there are others,
but these are just the ones I am aware of.
-Opponents can block this move in the air!
-This move is also Demitri's Guard Reversal. A Guard Reversal is a way your
character can retaliate while you are blocking an opponent's attack. You can
Guard Reversal all moves, even projectiles and Super Moves. To do a Guard
Reversal, you must be blocking. Simply block an opponent's attack, and while
they are still in their attack animation, and while Demitri is still blocking,
do the Demon Cradle and your opponent will get hit (its possible to block
certain Guard Reversals). You may have to do the Demon Cradle several times
if the first time didn't work. It is easier to Guard Reversal moves that hit
multiple times such as multiple Jabs, Shorts, any normal punches or kicks that
automatically hit more than once, and other moves that hit multiple times like
Rikuo's Screw Jet, Jon Talbain's Million Flick, Lord Raptor's Death Hurricane,
and others.
-The Super Demon Cradle hits up to nine times. You can also Guard Reversal
using the Super Demon Cradle.
Hell Fire
---------
| \ --O + punch (or all three punch for the Super version).
O O
-This move can be done while standing on the ground, or while airborne.
-Be careful when you shoot the Hell Fire at any opponent. There are many
characters (if not all) that have their own unique ways to avoid projectiles
without having to block or jump over it.
-For all you cheesers out there, remember the trick in the first Darkstalkers
game where you could simply (yawn) win by doing nothing but shooting out
fireballs? This "tactic" no longer works in Night Warriors. In fact,
shooting out a lot of fireballs can be downright risky!
-The ground based Super Hell Fire hits up to three times. The airborne based
Super Hell Fire hits up to two times. This may sound stupid, but it sounds
like Demitri yells, "Grab my leg!" when he shoots the Super Hellfire.
Fallen Angel
------------
| / O-- + kick (or all three kick for the Super version).
O O
-This move can be done while standing on the ground, or while airborne.
-Unlike the first Darkstalkers game, the Fallen Angel will now hit airborne
opponents multiple times (instead of just once).
-Though this move will somewhat "aim" for you automatically, you might still
have to do some manual "fine tuning." You might want to consider using a
different kick button, depending on where your opponent is standing.
-If you press Short, the Fallen Angel will hit opponents that are near
(punching/kicking distance) Demitri.
-If you press Forward, the Fallen Angel will hit opponents that are away
(jumping distance) from Demitri.
-If you press Roundhouse, the Fallen Angel will hit opponents that are far
away (beyond jumping distance) from Demitri.
-Be careful when you do this move. Even if Demitri hits an opponent with the
Fallen Angel, they can usually recover fast enough and hit you before you can
block in time.
-It is safer to do the Fallen Angel as Demitri is jumping back (be sure to do
the Fallen Angel before you land). Whether Demitri hits an opponent or not,
he should "bounce" away and out of range of most (usually Ducking Roundhouse)
counterattacks. Beware of Anakaris's Ducking Roundhouse and Lord Raptor's
Extended Fierce for they can still hit Demitri even if you use the "bounce
away" tactic.
-The Super Fallen Angel will not "bounce" away from an opponent. It will
continue hitting an opponent till it reaches the ground. The number of hits
will vary depending on where the Super Fallen Angel appears and where your
opponent is standing.
-It is difficult to "aim" the Super Fallen Angel, so use it sparingly.
Pursuit
-------
Push up and a kick button simultaneously when your opponent has been knocked
down (or use all three kick for the Super Pursuit).
-You do not have to be near your opponent to do this move. You can be
anywhere on the screen. Just be sure your opponent has been knocked down
(with a Ducking Roundhouse for example).
-The Super Pursuit hits six times.
Spinning Pile Driver
--------------------
Rotate the controller in a complete circular motion starting with Forward, to
Down, to Back, to Up, and to Forward again and then press punch.
-For beginning Demitri players, its easier to do this move if you jump towards
your opponent, and while Demitri is still airborne, start doing the motion
before you land (and don't forget to press punch). Instead of just jumping
towards an opponent, you can also try a Jumping Jab, or a Jumping Short.
-I don't think using all three punch buttons will do a Super version. I could
never do it. Maybe Demitri doesn't have a Super Spinning Pile Driver?
Shadow Beast
------------
| \ --O | \ --O + all three punch.
O O O O
-You can only do this move when your special meter is full.
-If you're having trouble understanding the motion, it's two "fireball"
motions.
-This move cannot be blocked.
-You do not have to be standing right next to your opponent to connect with
this move. The Shadow Beast floats forward (automatically) about two steps.
Be careful though, an opponent can do a simple Jab (or other more damaging
moves) to Demitri as he floats forward.
-It's easy to do the Pursuit after you hit your opponent with the Shadow
Beast.
-A good tactic is to do jump towards your opponent with a Roundhouse kick (it
doesn't matter whether an opponent blocks it or not), and then do the Shadow
Beast. Using this tactic, the Shadow Beast is impossible or very difficult to
avoid. Start doing the Shadow Beast as soon as Demitri hits with the Jumping
Roundhouse. Don't wait for Demitri to land, or you might not have enough time
to pull off the Shadow Beast.
-Another, but more difficult tactic is to get your special meter to two, do
the Super Fallen Angel (doesn't matter if it gets blocked or not) and then
Shadow Beast. It might be difficult to hit an opponent with the Super Fallen
Angel since it is so hard to "aim."
Bat Storm
---------
| \ --O | \ --O + all three kick.
O O O O
-You can only do this move when your special meter is full.
-If you're having trouble understanding the motion, it's two "fireball"
motions
-Demitri is not invulnerable as he "transforms." In fact, opponents can still
hit or even throw Demitri before the bats fly out!
-If an opponent happens to be standing near you and if they block the Bat
Storm, Demitri is easily hit by any counterattacks as he "transforms" back
into his non-monstrous self.
-The bats will not cancel out or eliminate any projectile attacks. They will
simply pass through it.
-The closer an opponent is to this move, the move damage it inflicts (up to
twenty-six hits).
Tips for Demitri players
------------------------
-Demitri's Jumping Forward has very good range for hitting both ground-based
and airborne opponents. His Jumping Roundhouse and Jumping Fierce is also
very useful for this.
-As noted earlier, Demitri should not be played using Ken/Ryu tactics
(especially when fighting the computer. The programming for Night Warriors
has been especially designed to foil this). If you're unaware of the
"standard" Ken/Ryu tactic, here it is: Try to stand as far away as possible
from your opponent. Next, shoot a fireball (preferably using the Jab button
to make it go slower). If an opponent jumps over the fireball and towards
you, do the "Dragon Punch." If an opponent blocks the fireball, repeat the
entire process. (yawn)
-The tactic described above does not work in this game so don't try it. Do
try doing a lot of Jumping Forwards, Jumping Roundhouses and Jumping Fierces.
Do try doing a lot combos after the Jumping Forward, Jumping Roundhouse, or
Jumping Fierce connects. Demitri is a very easy character to combo with (see
the end of this guide for some useful combos). Don't try shooting a lot of
Hell Fires. Don't try doing a lot of Demon Cradles. The Demon Cradle is a
good move, but don't depend on it to save you every single time.
-You must be thinking, "Sheesh, this guy must really hate Ken and Ryu!" No,
it is not that. I'm just trying to tell you that the Ken/Ryu pattern doesn't
work in this game.
-Demitri will disappear and reappear as he "runs" forward (push forward,
forward with the controller). It is difficult or impossible to hit Demitri as
he disappears, but it is possible to hit him as he reappears. Demitri can
even pass through an opponent or projectiles with this movement. Running back
(push back, back with the controller) also has the same effect.
-This is pretty old stuff isn't it?
-If you do a Demon Cradle while "running", it will spin in a diagonal
direction (which has slightly greater horizontal range).
-If you get knocked down, you can move while getting up. Simply push the
controller left or right to get up in that direction. You cannot be hit while
you are moving while getting up.
-If you find yourself getting thrown, immediately press Fierce or Roundhouse.
You must press either button just as your opponent begins to throw you (very
difficult to do). If you've done it correctly, Demitri will land on his feet
and take very little damage from the throw. You can't land on your feet on
Special or Super throws such as Morrigan's Hell Ride, Felicia's Scratching
Post, and many others.
-In Night Warriors, it is now possible to block most special moves ("S", "Es"
or "Ex" moves) while you are airborne. You can block Shadow Blades, Flash
Kicks, Tidal Waves, Cat Calls, and many more while you are in the air. Just
hold Back while you are airborne. There are a few exceptions. A few "S" or
"Es" moves like Anakaris's Cobra Strike and Felicia's Sand Splash cannot be
blocked by airborne opponents. There are probably others, but I only know of
these two. On the other hand, you cannot block normal punches and kicks (it
doesn't matter whether they are Standing or Ducking) while you are airborne.
Just to name a few, Huitzl's and Morrigan's Standing Roundhouse, Anakaris's
Ducking Fierce, Rikuo's Standing Fierce, and others all cannot be blocked
while you airborne. Also, a few Super (or "Ex" moves) cannot be blocked in
the air. Rikuo's Abyss, Anakaris's Mystic Portal, and Felicia's Rolling Fury
are a few examples.
-The above section on blocking doesn't necessarily apply only to Demitri.
All the characters in Night Warriors are capable of blocking in the way
mentioned above.
-In order to "chain" combo your opponent, just press the appropriate (punch
or kick) buttons quickly and in sequence. Don't wait for your character to
finish attacking with one move before you do another. Try practicing with
simple chain combos (like Jab, Strong) first. Once you've gotten the hang
of doing simple chains, just work your way up to the more complex ones.
-If you're wondering what is a nice color for Demitri, on the player select
screen choose Demitri with the Short button (blue) or by pressing and holding
down the Jab and Forward buttons (red).
What Are Some Good Combos? (listed in order, for beginners to masters).
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Can be done all Standing Up or all Ducking Down, or alternate between
Standing and Ducking: Jab, Strong. OR Strong, Fierce. OR Short,
Forward. OR Forward, Roundhouse. OR Jab, Strong, Fierce. OR Short,
Forward, Roundhouse.
-Jumping Short, Jumping Forward (push Forward kick before you land, but after
Jumping Short hits). OR Jumping Short, Jumping Roundhouse.
-Jumping Roundhouse or Jumping Fierce, Standing Strong, Standing Fierce.
-Standing Strong, Demon Cradle (or Super Demon Cradle). OR Jumping
Roundhouse, Ducking Forward, Hellfire.
-Standing Jab, Standing Strong, Ducking Forward, Ducking Roundhouse.
-Jumping Roundhouse or Jumping Fierce, Standing Strong, Standing Forward,
Standing Roundhouse.
-Standing Jab, Standing Short, Standing Strong, Standing Forward, Standing
Roundhouse.
Strength. Beauty. We have no equal in the kingdom.
