"Alt.games.sf2 PPL Have Issues!-->LONG" which wasn't long at all. And the
un-thought-out "What is the Big Deal with Parrys?" which not only had a
spelling error in the subject, but was totally unnecessary. If he really
wanted the answer he should have searched DejaNews. I believe this guy to
be a bored, D average, slacker with nothing better to do then pick fights on
the internet. I suggest putting his name in your NG filters.

Juz Becoz me and most of ya don't agree about certain things that makes me a

don't like juggles but they are in the game and I have to put up with them. I

I've haven't said anything that suggests my level of worth in the world is

Unless he's from a non-English speaking country. Then I forgive him, but

You're probably playing against scrubs, and you're not getting killed for attacking
because of parries, so you don't realize how much they screw up the game... that's

sentence, ok? The reason why people do hate parries, it's because they're very easy
to do, have a low risk (a missed parry often results in nothing happening, or maybe
getting hit with a fierce), and have a high reward (a successful parry often
results in a combo, usually a large, high damage combo). I hope that sentence
wasn't too complicated for you. Now if you're going to go on about how you think
parries are great, at least understand the argument that the rest of us are saying.

Another. U use homosexual insults like "dick rider". I find this totally
ignorant and infuriating. I know gay people and I don't like people calling
others homosexual as an insult. Being gay is not a bad thing. And you're
STILL totally wrong on parries. You HAVE NOT seen good SF3:2I matches. If
you did, you'd know they are BORING AS HELL! Example of a good SF3:2I
match. 2 parry masters standing right next to each other waiting to parry
the other's move. One of them will pretend to tap a button and fake the guy
out. and try to get an attack in. This'll go the whole 99 seconds.
Hopefully one guy will get 1 combo in or a blocked special and the round
will be won by a time over.

Engineering and Computer Science major. I'm a scrub (yes, you heard me. I am a
scrub, I don't know how to play the game that well). I like SF. I know some of the
games have abuseable features, like parrying, V-ism, Dhalsim, etc...but I also know
when to see these features as abuseable.

That's just it... you don't seem to understand... I am complaining about the
feature because I *AM* winning with it. If I parry everything you throw at me, and
I jab you once, I will win. But I will not consider it fun, because this one simple
act of tapping the joystick towards my opponent or down when he attacks is making
this game just the same pattern over and over. That is not fun. It just makes
high-level (that means games with players who are very skilled) competition boring,
since both players will parry each other until the cows come home. Maybe you don't
understand. Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Jen. She was a peculiar girl, since she
liked playing video games, and most girls didn't do that sort of thing. She liked
playing a game called X-men vs. Street Fighter. One day, she played around with a
character called Sabertooth, and learned that she could do a really really easy
combo*, and do it over and over again, and would defeat most of her competition.
She played for a while, and kept winning. Eventually, she got bored of playing with
Sabertooth and doing the same combo over and over again. Finally, she realized that
X-men vs. Street Fighter was a lousy game, because some characters like Sabertooth
were ridiculously stupid and easy to win with. She then complained about the game
to her friends.
Now, the question is... if she was winning, why did she complain? My goodness!
According to your logic, there is none! (If you forgot what your logic was, please

Here's the reason Jen complained about the game. It was unbalanced, and, since she
could do the easy combo over and over and win, she didn't like it that much since
it was just doing the same combo over and over, and that rapidly became dull. So
the game wasn't that much fun for her.
(Ok, here comes the explaination. This explaination is presented in
ELEMENTARY-VISION! It is geared towards elementary-school kids and people who are
of the mental level of elementary school kids. Very simple explaination indeed!)
Here's a simple thing called an analogy. It means that if two things are similar in
relationship, they can be applied to each other. An example would be Mammal :: Dog,
Plant :: Daisy. You see? A Dog is a kind of Mammal. A Daisy is a kind of Plant. Now
follow carefully...
Overpowered Characters in X-men vs. Street Fighter :: abuseable feature in a
fighting game
Parrying in SF3/2i :: abuseable feature in a fighting game
They are similar. Overpowered characters make the game un-fun, since these
characters make the game boring to play. Parries make the game un-fun, since
parries make the game boring to play. They may have different reasonings behind
them, but the analogy is the same. I hope you understand.
*: easy combo: j.Fierce, j.RH, c.short, c.Fierce, sj.jab, sj.short, sj.strong,
sj.forward XX strong Air Throw, land, Super Berserker Claw... 80%, I think.
Everybody knows this, all the ScrubberTooth players at the Underground know (and
use) this combo...bleah, what a pain.

I realize that, you can't stop me from posting anything any more than i could
you, all i'm saying is, is that kids and adults of all ages use these
newsgroups, kids ask alot of questions. (not saying he's a kid, just using an

all of the evidence we've brought to contradict what you're trying to sell to
us as fact. Plus, you can't (yes, I said YOU CAN'T) counter it with anything
but these crappy posts of yours. Why don't you try quoting the post that
you're responding to (there IS an option in your newsreader for that...FIND
IT) and then go through our posts point by point and respond to each point,
giving EVIDENCE that contradicts our evidence.

NOTHING. Your arcade experiences are nothing compared to being in a
tournament. NOTHING. There is NOTHING like being in a tournament. Try it.
You'll see that when you watch and play against the BEST players, you find out
EXACTLY what a game plays like at higher levels of skill.

experience. We've SEEN the game played at its highest levels of skill. You

do it. We've said time and time again EXACTLY what's wrong with parries...but
I guess your brain can't comprehend what risk/reward ratio is. Pity.

This is exactly why we know you're a scrub. A truly skilled player recognizes
when they're earning their wins and when they're being given their wins. You
obviously aren't good enough to know the difference.
C'mon man! Haven't I told you that I played Ken a lot in SF3:NG and I know
that he's overpowered? Get a clue! Haven't I already said that the reason
why this is true is because he gets 2 Shinryukens, which each do 50% damage
and that that fact coupled with his deadly Hurricane Kick trap makes him
EXTREMELY over-powered offensively? Duh! Think about it. Why would I
complain about something that gives me easy wins? Hmmm....could it be
because I prefer to EARN my wins? Hmmmmmmm.....

Umm...actually...you don't. How do I know? Look at me. I'm respected
because I post FACTS and because I don't let silly people upset me. I'm not
bragging, I'm posting facts...which is what I do.
You get respect not only when you post facts, but when you are also humble

I say my own opinion, I get some respect, people don't flame me. It must be
your "slang" or something. But still, that wouldn't be fair. It would

But didn't many people say they hate parries because they're too easy to pull
off? And the usage of them would make matches too easy too win. No competition,
as some would say. Alpha counters are easy to pull off, and ACs suck because
they hardly do damage, take a super bar, and leave you vulnerable if you miss
or your opponent blocks.
And don't deny it becoz if there is something U R using and your

People probably complain because it makes it too easy for them to win. They
probably want some COMPETITION.

You should know, however, that you can counter-throw the air throw...'cause
you can't really combo it, but then it really becomes a choice of s.j.
jab-short-strong-forward-fierce-roundhouse or stopping at forward and then
following with the air throw. Wow....so many options. The only other combo
of worth that he has, which is his only guaranteed super combo is j.
fierce-roundhouse, c. short-s. roundhouse XX Berserker Claw X.

You just displayed a "fallacy of thinking". Dang...what's it called?
Anyway, it's not the number of hits that matters...it's the DAMAGE. Anyone
that's really putting thought into this discussion knows that. Look, it boils
down to this.....pay attention.
LazyJae parries (taking NO risk for missing) and you eat a 20+ hit combo (he
gets rewarded for taking a very small risk).
Now, can you honestly say that you would've made him eat a big combo instead
if he missed the parry? NO! Why? Because there is NO MISS ANIMATION! You
can't tell when he misses a parry.

I knew you could counter the air throw, but not all air throw ranges are the same...
s'why my Gambit got shredded, since his air throw range doesn't seem to be greater
than Sabe's... Charlie, on the other hand, can counter-throw pretty easily. I guess
it depends on the person you play against.

NEway as for the parries. the parries are acceptable in my
opinion. As for them getting toned down in 3rd Strike I am
pissed. Like I said earlier I was reading this article. And
it said that some of the things that you can do after the
parry in 2I have been removed. So this might make the parry
less useful in 3rd Strike?
So does that mean that you folks will like 3rd Strike?
As for the "Dick Riders" statement I made earlier. I was
