You´re in the right place Smoothy! I personally posses the cartridge of
Street Fighter Alpha 2. It cost me 70 bucks. Either how, I have had it
since January, and here are my opinions:
First of all, you must understand that this game is no way NEAR the
quality of the arcade, Playstation or Saturn versions, but then again, it
isn´t supposed to! Capcom has done a swell job, and they did what they
could with the 16-bit Super NES. The intro is identical! Nothing has been
spared! ^-^
Let´s talk about the graphics. The animation of tha characters is
well...so-so at best. The characters don´t seem to be as detailed as the
other versions where, and you can´t tell if characters like M.Bison or
Sakura have a nose! However, the animation is on pair. You´ll get used to
it believe me. ^-^
The backgrounds are also way cool! Identical to the aracde version no
doubt! However, some deatils are missing. No people in Birdie´s stage
besides the old man! (and he appears in the second round only). Rolento´s
stage only goes up in the second round too. Besides, neither Dhalsim´s
wife, nor Eliza, nor Sakura´s brother react to what happens in the match.
Jessica doesn´t slap Cody if a woman goes in front of him neither (in
Guy´s stage). Strider still launches his teddy bear up, though (in Ken´s
satge, whenever you unleash a SC) and the soldiers of M.Bison´s stage
still salute as well.
As you may have noticed, the face portraits from the energy bars are
gone too.
The sounds: The music is similar to the arcade, and the BGMs are
identical, though they don´t sound so "dramatic" like the other versions.
(I truly loved Akuma´s, Sakura´s and Australia´s BGM). The voices sound a
bit muffled too, and some voices are missing! (No death cries or "You
Win!" or "You Lose" announcements).
The control: Superb. Like any Street Fighter game. Though I must
admit that the Level 3 SC are TOUGH to whip out!
Gameplay: Well, first of all, you have to suffer certain "loading
time" between rounds. If that´s okay for you, all right. However, it´s
pretty strange finding them in a cartridge!
All the dialogues are there, but the endings are incomplete, and
certain screens have been nixed as well.
Complaints: No Venezuela stage
Some intros before the battle have been changed:
*Ryu just fixes his headband
*Adon doesn´t strecth completly
*Dhalsim now teleports into the screen
*Sakura jumps from her side of the screen, and wipes her mouth
*Rolento bends a bit when he falls
*Zangief comes running from his side of the screen, and flexes
*Birdie licks his chain
*Sodom bows
Dan repeats his taunt voice in every taunt
Victory poses have been nixed:
*Ryu´s leaf blowing through him victory
*Adon´s back-flexing, taking off his crown and kneeling victories
*Ken´s peace sign victory
*Sakura´s dance and shoe victories
*Zangief´s raising arms victory
*Charlie´s "Too easy!" victory
*Birdie´s combing and knife victories
*Rose´s images in his victories, and she no longer has the dress one
neither.
*Dan´s gi victory
If you can bare all that you´re home free!

Horrible loading time to put up with between EACH ROUND. It's stupid.
Horrible slow-down. Even at Turbo2 the gameplay is incredibly sluggish.
Start a CC then press low RH and it will not come out right away, you have to
repeatedly press it. Bison's Level 1, 2 and 3 SC Scissor Kicks cannot pass
fireballs at all. Ryu/Ken's standing short have more range than their low
roundhouse. They simply have no low RH range at all, it's about the same as
the low forward. There are horrible problems with every character; none of
them can play like in the arcade. If anyone is thinking of getting this game,
DON'T. It's almost worth it just to laugh at the SNES try to handle a screen
full of CC fireballs, but not quite.
Don't bother.

Hmmm... in places such as on Charlie and M Bison's stage it slows down,
which is a bit annoying....

Don't worry, I can bare that easily!! SFAlpha2 is as playable as ever on
the Super NES!!

For God sake, EVERYTHING in the game has Capcom in it...before the
intro, and at the end of the credits! Nintendo published it and they put
their lousy logo on the box, in the outside of the cart and in the
instruction booklet...but the game ITSELF is made entirely by Capcom!
(Maybe Capcom didn´t want to get scorched and they lended the marketing
rights to Nintendo..:P)

How can you compare 16-bit versions with 32-bit versions? It doesn´t
make any sense... Take my advice: If your budget is limited, can´t go out
and buy a new system, and stuck with the Super NES, buy this game! Man,
it´s almost like comparing the SNK games in the Game Boy with the Neo Geo
versions...:P

The loading time takes 5 seconds actually, before battles and before
rounds too. The loading time before battles is to load the characters on
screen, and before rounds is to load the movement of the characters.
There is also a short 2 second loading before the victory pose.
> 3) IMHO, it's much better than any other SF game for SNES.
Yeah, no kidding...I posses all 3 versions of Street Fighter before,
and this has to be the best yet (mainly because it´s my favorite SF game,
regardless of Street Fighter III). Maybe the other 2 games superb this
one in certain aspects, but in overall gampelay, Street Fighter Alpha 2
wins. :)
> 4) Nintendo made it in-house so it's also cheaper (at full price) that

I recall when Super Street Fighter II: New Challengers costed me 80
dollars...and SFA 2 roaming the 70 price tag really was a deep breath for
me. Nintendo was smart in making this decision. ^-^

Actually, I have even played Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha, saw it,
compared it, and I have to say that it comes up pretty close...for a
16-bitter, mind you. Besides, like a cheap plug-in, you can save
quarters! ^-^

I heavily recoomend NOT playing in Charlie´s or Zangief´s stage, where
the most slowdown occurs. Play in Sagat´s stage or Gen´s stage for a
almost non-slowdown action! ^-^

I gotta agree. SNES SFA2 is a very fun game, although not as good as the
Playstation/Saturn/Arcade versions. I'd say that it's the most fun
fighting game on the SNES thus far. I have it and it stays interesting for
a long time.

I'll agree that it's not as great as, say, the Saturn version. But if you
don't have PlayStation or Saturn, and you DO have SNES, then why not get
it? And I notice that Adon seems a lot more powerful in the SNES version;
Jaguar Knee hits from farther away, which makes it a LOT more useful. They
should make it hit that far in the arcade, and other home versions. It
would make Adon a lot more powerful right there.
And CCs not being as powerful is a plus, IMO.

Not to flame you, BUT this game is the main reason i decided it was
time to trash the SNES and go spring for a saturn. Forget about 16 vs
32 bit, just talk about gameplay.
The SNES is no where near true to the arcade and the speed of the game
is PAINFUL... i much prefer the SNES version of hyper... at least it
was much closer to the arcade in gameplay.

SFA2 is a scrub's dream arcade game, and the SNES version is a slow
scrubs dream.... IMHO of course....
Erik
Overall, you'd be best just sticking with SSF2 ot SF2T. If
you're really desperate then just play it down the arcade...

"Give 'em an inch, they take a foot, and before

I agree with the loading times, even on the 16-bit version.... I mean how
ridiculous... but hey, at least it actually plays... it wouldn't work on
the Megadrive because it can't handle it...
Well I posses all three versions of Street Fighter for the Super NES as
well, and I can say that while Super Street Fighter II is more smoother, SF
Alpha 2 is the better game because of the new moves and better drawn
characters....
Nintendo DIDN'T make the game, that honour goes to Capcom, check out the
credits at the end of the game if you don't believe me... why would
Nintendo make it? Doesn't make sense.... besides it's cheaper because it
had to be....
BUT comparing it to the arcade version, it comes off favourably....
As for the speed, well, it's inevitable with a highly technical game as SF
Alpha 2 that one day the SNES will meet it's match in terms of speed and
this is it.... on TURBO 2 most levels are OK but on some like Guile's stage
it slows down horribly... AVOID those stages.... I'm sure that if Capcom's
main programming machine was the Super NES then it would have been
corrected but seeing as it's not.... well....
in conclusion, of course that the Playstation and the Sad-turn is the
better version but the Super NES is obviously almost as good as it.... so
ENJOY your Super NES version, OK?
from Smoothy
sure you can compare the 16 and 32 bit versions, but it DOES NOT play
almost as good at all. If you really believe this than you havent played
the 32 bit versions. and the 32 bit machine IS NOT a waste of money. if
you want games like msh, xmvsf, sf3 than youd better get a saturn. no way
in hell is a 16 bit machine ever gonna come out with these games. btw i
own both the snes version and saturn version of sfa2. the snes version is
okay if you dont have any other system, but the saturn and psx versions
completely blow the snes version out of the water! the saturns version is
just about arcade perfect (maybe missing some animation but hardly
noticable unless youre nitpicking) therefore the argument that a 32 bit
machine cant even outperform a 16 bit machine is completely unfounded.
nothing could be farther from the truth.
>in conclusion, of course that the Playstation and the Sad-turn is the

super nes obviously almost as good??? man you really gotta get your eyes
checked. about the only good thing about the snes version is the intro.
talk about untolerable slowdown, tons of missing frames, crap music, and
friggin load times for a cartridge game!! there really shouldnt be any
debate here at all. the snes version isnt even remotely close to the
quality of the 32 bit versions. and if you were a true sf capcom fan,
you wouldnt call the saturn 'sad', as it will have the best versions of
all capcom fighting games.
HA HA HA HA HA HA, SFA2 gameplay was grat((((((((((???????)))))))))
I think SFA2 gameplay is the most worse Street Fighter ever created on
SNES. Street Fighter 2 was far more good/superior than SFA2, Fortunately
I rent it, and I can finished this game in 15 minutes or less!!!!rather
than Street Fighter 2 which took me 30 minutes or more, Don't flame me
guys it's true;)
When I said the gameplay was great, I meant in comparison to the arcade.
However I did find SFA2 enjoyable to play (although I like SF2 a little
better).

Um . .. is Smoothy also known as Charlie, by any chance?

Get lost. You can't compete with my powers.
I have played both PlayStation's & Saturn's versions of SFA2, & although
these versions are very close to the arcade game of same name, I still
like the ported version for the SNES. The SNES game pak version is a very
good translation from the original coin-op to the 16-bit realm. Now, even
though the PSX & Sat SFA2 games are much more faithful to the SFA2
coin-op, the SNES version is an excellent game 4 this game system. If I
wanna play a quick game of SFA2 -- the SNES fulfills that job more
conveniently, w/ no waiting. <-Allan->
