Cool, but for the idiots in here who demand the stupid spoiler space (we all
ignore those spoiler spaces anyhow), here goes the annoying spoiler space.

Good to see you down here. Hey - I knew you couldn't resist!

I'll try to answer the questions without giving out the fun of exploration.
My answers will give you a nudge in the right direction and you should be
able to enjoy the fun of figuring it out from there:

>(1) How do I get to the smallest, and farthest. fifth island?

Once you have placed all the marbles on the board, you will activate the
books. All the books (they are all the same) take you to the same place,
that small island.

>(2) How do I get the fire marbles to work at the top of the Golden Dome?

You will need to map out the location of the Fire Dome on each of the 5
islands. You will find the 3 dimensional "Survey Island" to be there just
for that purpose. In fact, traveling to that island is pointless once you've
figured it out.

TIP: Draw the grids you see on Survey Island on a piece of paper. You will
have no difficulty finding each island. Once you've plotted each Fire Dome,
to figure out the color for each dome, you will need to find another
entrance to Survey Island and find more clues.

>(3) On the island with the giant pond, where you can find the frog from the
hole,
>can you jump in?

Yes (just joking). It's just there to establish the frog. All you need to
know is that you'll need a frog somewhere in the game. Write down or draw it
on paper. Also, go to the eyeball and spin it to find it's symbol. Looking
up the symbol tells you that the frog is number 3. You'll have to figure out
which creatures are numbers 1, 2, 4 & 5.

>(4) What is down in that deep dark hole?

The telescope is pointing to a sealed hatch. You'll need the combination to
unlock it, then you will see. You will find the combination in Catherine's
Journal (the combination changes with each game).

>(5) How can I avoid the villagers' attention, when going to the village, on
island two?

You can't. It's part of the game. Heck, they think you are with Gehn, so
your very presence frightens them.

>(6) Can I go through the entire Rebel Age house, where the rebels' reside
>in?

There's not much to see there.

>(7) Can I get behind the glass in Gehn's temple?

Take a seat on a big chair and your image appears in the temple.

>(8) How can I explore the rest of the village on the second island?

You can't. All the doors are locked. Been there, tried everything.

>(9) How can I capture, or stop one of Gehn's officers on the fourth island?

You can't. This game is scripted for certain events. When the sequel
arrives, that may change.

>(10) If I re-open the "Star Fissure" before I capture Geon,
>and release Catherine, will RIVEN end?

Yes.

>(11) Is there any secret passage under water in the village on the largest
>island?

None have been found.

Nope...all 5 books go to the 233rd age where Gehn lives now. From there
you reach the 5th island.

Hi, Daniel, I am Jean, and will try to help you if I can. Some of the
answers below are similar to those provided by other people, and some
are different.

Contains some mild spoilers for other explorers who have not yet reached
the same point.

That's one of your intermediate objectives in the game. Therefore, you
need to have explored the other islands and solved one of the game's
main puzzles before you can think about getting there. Hint: see answer
#2, below.

> (2) How do I get the fire marbles to work at the top of the Golden Dome? Send a > picture or something to help me out. Please give instructions about where to
> place the marbles. NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!(for the ending of the game that is)

That is one of the main puzzles in the game. Solving this particular
puzzle requires an exhaustive prior work of information gathering. I
don't think you want to be directly spoiled with a picture before
you've had the opportunity to solve it. However, if you believe you
have gathered all the necessary clues and you are still stuck, or you're
really tired of working on it, just ask again. I'm sure someone will be
able to provide a link to a picture of the positioning.

This is a complex puzzle. Numerous clues must be gathered from all the
islands and must be pieced together in order to solve it. The clues for
the correct positioning on the grid can be found on Plateau island. The
color code is also to be obtained on Plateau island, and the clues for
which particular color to use in each particular slot can be obtained by
observing the rotating domes on each island. You will have to complete
the reasoning by making some assumptions and you might have to use some
trial and error process.

> (3) On the island with the giant pond, where you can find the frog from the hole,
> can you jump in?

No.

> (4) What is down in that deep dark hole?

Ytrams.

> (5) How can I avoid the villagers' attention, when going to the village, on island > two?

You can't, really, and you do not need to.

> (6) Can I go through the entire Rebel Age house, where the rebels' reside
> in?

No. Disappointing, isn't it?

(7) Can I get behind the glass in Gehn's temple?

I'm not sure what you mean, here. Do you mean in Gehn's lab? If so,
you can go through both doors. I can't remember if there's a glass in
the temple, but you certainly cannot go behind one there. (However, you
can light up something in there, but that's another story with which you
need not concern yourself until you have finished the game.)

> (8) How can I explore the rest of the village on the second island?

It depends what you have already explored and what you mean by "the rest
of the village". Once you have explored Jungle island thourougly in
both directions, you have reached the sub, which allowed you to explore
more of the island. Finally, you get to explore the island's upper
level, after a small or lenghty detour, which might take you to another
island first. You can go inside the main buildings. You can't go
inside the huts.

> (9) How can I capture, or stop one of Gehn's officers on the fourth island?

His scribe. You can't do anything more than see him.

(10) If I re-open the "Star Fissure" before I capture Geon, and release
Catherine, will RIVEN end?

Save your game and try it.

(11) Is there any secret passage under water in the village on the
largest island?

Sort of. The sub's path is some sort of secret passage under water.
Did you visit all the possible stops? Other than that, no.

Excuse me? I was being as vague as I possibly could!

If I were to give THAT detail, he would have not EXPLORED.

I was only giving gentle nudges in the right direction. I wanted the Daniel
to be surprised when he saw Gehn in person. I wanted Daniel to figure out if
he could trust Gehn's offer.

If Daniel just looks at the books and enters the 5th age, he would be unable
to return without the music code (which can only be discovered by exploring
thoroughly).

Ok. I'll answer after the q's and the space. Note that the answer to (2) is
rather complete. Don't read if you don't want to know almost everything.

By using a linking book which you will find in time.

On "Survey" Island, where you see the little map and the thing behind you
gives detail of topography? Look for the domes. Now, think how this could be
represented in a 25x25 grid - notr thet the control map and the guide in the
Great Dome show the world of Riven as 5x5, and see what you can figure out.

Which color where? If you can stop the dome, you see the Riven character for
a color. If you don't know the color characters, that's on Survey Island
too.

I don't know. See (3)

Can't.

Nope.

You mean outside? It's frickin hot out there! You mean you want to just
stroll out there w/o protective gear?

No.

Redesign the game. Sorry.

See (8).

That, I will not disclose. Save and try.

#1 You dont need to accept Gehn's offer to visit the last island.
#2 You dont need the music code to return.

Why do you persist on giving misinformation?

Let's stop this right here.
Fish, there are people here who are more than 14 years old. It would not
appear that you are one of them.
That's fine. Stay, read, play your chosen persona and enjoy.
Relate that persona to the world of Riven - this is encouraged!
Understand, though...you are not yet mature enough to have grasped the
concept of vagueness properly. It is _not_ an easy concept to grasp.
Spouting misinformation is _not_ the same as vagueness.
So please...leave the hint-giving to those who have been doing it for a
while and leave out the sarcastic comments...
