And you also either : A) Used a can of first aid spray and/or B) Used the
Submachine Gun/Spark Shot/Flamethrower. Right?

Maybe the First-aid spray and double-slot guns have something to do
with not getting the infinite ammoed weapons in Game B, but it has
NOTHING to do with the ranking!
I beat RE2 with Leon: 3hr 15min, 0 saves (you have NO idea how many
times I had to restart,) took the side packs (left the Sub-gun for
Clarie,) used the Flamethrower (works great on those plant things,)
and the first aid spray. I got a well deserved A ranking for my
efforts. Now for some reason (I may be mistaken, but according to all
the major video game mags, I should have an infinite ammo rocket
launcher coming my way) the infinite ammo Rocketlauncher isn't in game
B *shrugs*

Well, I've beaten the game many times...gotten all the infinite weapons, Hunk
and Tofu. Any time I've used a double slot weapon I've never gotten an A
ranking. Not that you need them...the game is easy enough without them. (Go
ahead and flame me, people...I think it's true.)
If you're interested in how to get the infinite weapons, here it is:
Rocket Launcher : Beat ClaireA or LeonA in under 2.5 hours w/ A or B ranking.
Infinite SMG : Beat LeonB or ClaireB in under 2.5 hours w/ A or B ranking.
Infinite Gatling : Beat LeonB or ClaireB in under 2.5 hours w/ A or B ranking
WITHOUT saving, easy to do with Rocket Launcher.

...and quite possibly he was either:
A] Dying
B] surrounded by zombies
C] fighting one of the bosses
I guess I am a little disenchanted by Resident Evil 2. Don't get me
wrong, it's a fantastic game, but I have a problem with a game that
rewards you for not playing through it. Such as not using the big
guns like the Flamethrower, or not saving when you REALLY should.
The desire to finish it quickly actually did me more harm than good.
Sometimes I would play for an hour or more without saving and making
lots of progress and I would pass up the opportunity to save only to
get killed around the next corner. Then I would have to go all the
way back to where I was and do it all again. This gave me more
frustration than enjoyment. I think they should have just allowed you
to get to the extras by way of codes instead of rushing through the
game without saving or using the spray. I guess I'll never see the
"extras" because I don't think there's anyway I could finish either
disc in under 3 hrs. Again, I think it was a great game and I have
finished both discs once and I am now working on Leon's 2nd
time around, but I want to "see" the game...not run through it.

Personally, I didn't even get on the newsgroup until I'd finished LeonA and
ClaireB....I got a C ranking both times, and no infinite weapons, but at least
it was fun. It wasn't until after that that I tried to get an A ranking and
the infinite weapons/hidden characters.
