Interesting. The bottom line is always the dollar.
I think that the GameCube will pick up in Japan. However, I also think that
after RE4 and RE:Zero, Capcom will revert the series to multi-format.

Don't listen to this troll. He's the umpteenth to post this edited,
because right after it states this in the artical, it goes on to say
"Luckily for Nintendo and Capcom, sales of the GameCube HAVE picked
up". They just conveniently edit it and send it to the newsgroups.

The quote is also by a Capcom USA employee. And we know how much
influence *they* have. ;)

It's better off to hear from an employee working at Capcom Japan which is where
Biohazard
is from. Also Shinji Mikami, creator of the Biohazard series, recently said that
the games will stay
on Gamecube, exclusively. He has high hopes with Nintendo's new system and he also
stated
that Gamecube is the only machine that can power the Biohazard series.
Source:
This was in a recent interview with PSM's January 2002 issue(The one with Yuna on
the front cover)
PSM was interviewing with many famous game developers such as Hideo Kojima(Metal
Gear Series)
and of course, Shinji Mikami about why he moved the Biohazard series onto the
Gamecube and
mentioned a Devil May Cry sequel on PS2.
Not only that but Capcom listens to Shinji Mikami as he's one of their important
staff member at the company.
Shinji is the guy raking all that money from his games like Devil May Cry, Gun
Survivor, Resident Evil, and Dino
Crisis.
It's not all that unrealistic. If it sells poorly on the gamecube of
course they will port it to other systems. Just like they did with
Code: Veronica. What Gardner is saying is just common sense. To be
honest I believe it will be ported but I don't think it will happen
for 2-3 years.
I don't care what Mikami is saying now, because he has said it before
& look what happened.
The following is the only real resource to be found regarding Mikami's
"DC exclusivisity" statments. Everyone else just says "I read it
somewhere else, but I know it's true!" This a Japanese -> Chinese ->
English translation -- not my own, of course -- so it's a bit mangled.
*BOLDFACE* added by yours truly.

Q: You must have something to say to Dreamcast's owners, regarding the
Dreamcast version of Biohazard Code Veronica Complete?
Shinji Mikami : Although Biohazard Code Veronica Complete can be
release on Dreamcast, I'll still want to apologize to all Dreamcast
owners. Because until now, VERONICA gives people the *IMPRESSION* that
it is a Dreamcast exclusive. And previously on the Internet I have said
that this game will not be release on other consoles. Actually *IN THE
VERY BEGINNING, WE ALREADY DECIDED TO PORT THIS GAME OVER TO
PLAYSTATION 2.* And Kato san felt that the game still have lots of
"unfinished business", including the matter of giving Albert Wesker
more exposure, that's why we all decided to release CODE VERONICA
COMPLETE. But if we don't release the game at the same time on
Dreamcast that will be bad, because Dreamcast owners will be quite
upset. In the end, we felt that on releasing it first on Dreamcast and
then port over to Playstaion2, that will be more acceptable by
everybody, and there we decided to release a Dreamcast version.
Whatsoever, on lying to Dreamcast owners I want to say : "Sorry."
--------------------------
My shortened translation for those of you who have trouble with
comprehension:
===========================
Mikami: Although RE C:V was released on the Dreamcast, I still want to
apologize to all Dreamcast owners because the *IMPRESSION* was given
that C:V was to be a Dreamcast exclusive. Previously, on the internet I
had stated that the game would not be released for any other consoles.
However, *FROM THE START, WE HAD DECIDED TO PORT THIS GAME TO THE PS2*.
===========================
That's hardly the situation this time around with the GameCube.
Whose to say they are not planning to relase it on other consoles now,
It would hurt the sales of the gamecube version if they announced it.
The Gamecube is certainly not going to buckle under itself like the
dreamcast did but if they don't get enough (or what they feel is
enough) sales to justify their development cost & efforts Mikami may
be making another apology. I guess in the end time will tell.
Either way it's fine by me =-)
Why admit to it anyway? If you are going to fudge the facts then at least do
it well.

The *BOLDFACE* was my addition -- not the words, but the
capitalization and the asterii. That is, I "bolded" certain parts of the
document. To emphasize the important points, people do that sometimes.
;)
Well I feel stupid now. I will concede some things for the sake of argument.
1- Sega's press releases claimed that Code Veronica was an exclusive, not
Capcom's
2- Capcom US said it had no plans of ever proting CV but it didn't
explicitly say that they couldn't. And that is from a direct email response
to me so that you can trust (as much as you trust me anyway)
3- Sega claimed they helped make CV. It was later found out that the help
was in the form of a help desk for programing issues. The "help" led many to
beleive that Capcom owed a percentage of the game to Sega's developers.
4- Electronics Boutique and it's other names was heavily in bed with Sega at
the time like they are with X-Box now. Their store policy was to lable the
game as a Sega Exclusive.
5- EB denied Sega's demise even after Wal-Mart, which is slow about
everything, admited that the Dreamcast was dying, so the credibility of
point 4 is iffy at best.
6- Capcom announced that they would port every product to every console as
much as possible, but they didn't port CV.
To sum up the above from the perspective of a PS2 owner that followed the
whole thing closely. Sega and it's freinds claimed exclusivity. Capcom
allowed those claims to grow by being vauge or outright denying the truth.
Capcom reversed it's policy of proting to all consoles with the temporary
exclusivity and then reversed it's reversal with the PS2 port. With that
past history I'd say PS2 ports of the new RE game is unlikely but that a PS3
port is almost assured assuming Sony unveils it as soon as they've hinted at
(end of 2003 is possible). If the PS3 is delayed a PS2 port is possible, in
my opinion.
>-Bungie, previously a Mac only developer, becoming an exclusive MS Xbox
>developer
They were bought out by MS. That's why they're exclusive.
