Correct. This is the same with all traditional RE games.

5 shots seems about right for a zombie with the standard handgun; be aware
that extra ammo can be hidden around the locales.
The main tactic is to avoid any peripheral zombies by learning to dodge
effectively and only save when you've really accomplished something. Do NOT
shoot all the zombies.
CV isn't hard per se, but you can't bulldoze your way through it.......and
you don't need a Gameshark; that'll just destroy the challenge.

Yep... and you need an ink ribbon in order to use the typewriter. It's the
unique method of saving that was introduced all those years ago when RE1
first came out. Personally, I like the idea, although the downside is that
if you're going for grades, you need to book yourself enough time to play it
without the need to save it.

Yeah... all the RE games start off like that. I remember playing RE2 for the
first time, and it took me at least five or six attempts to reach the police
station without dying or getting there on Danger health.

5 shots a zombie's about the norm, although with a shotgun you can take them
out with one shot aimed at the head. Here's a few pointers:
* try running past zombies and shoot only if cornered.
* fire with pauses between each shot, as zombies tend to sway backwards
after one or two shots, and one more will cause him to topple over. Then you
can run up and put a bullet in his head.
* Personally I hate Gamesharks because they ruin the game that the makers
intended it to be.
* Try not to use too many ink ribbons on first play, as you may need one
before fighting a boss monster.
* mix red and green hearbs together to make a more powerful healing agent.
That's about it for now I think. Have fun. :)

I don't mean to sound like a stuck-up bastard, but you haven't played
all that many console RPG or adventure games, have you? It's beyond the
scope of this thread to argue for or against save spots/limited saves,
so I'll leave it at that. ;)

Correct.

Sure. Run from/past dogs (look at the map when you enter a new area so
you don't run the wrong way) and weave from side to side. If you must
kill the dogs, either shoot from a good distance, or walk around the
dog so it slows down, then slash downwards at it with your knife. I
often combine the two methods -- knock the dog down by filling it
with lead, then slash at it while it tries to rise. You can
usually/often run past zombies as well, as they're kinda slow. Slashing
downwards at zombies is a superb way to get rid of 'em, as the slash
hits multiple times *and* knocks them down. I don't think I used
anything but a knife against zombies for much of the game.
> What about saving my game?
Since you seem to be new to RE, I advise you to save pretty much as
often as you can. There are *tons* of ink ribbons in the game, so that
shouldn't be too much of a problem.
> Do I need to
> get Gameshark? Thanks.
I hope not. =(

The best way to deal with zombies in CV is to use the knife. Don't waste ammo
on zombies, especially on singal ones. When Using the knife, slash down at the
zombies legs. This causes mutliple hits and can knock them down in one or two
slashes. Then when they are on the ground, kill them with the knife. Of
course, if you are surrounded, by all means use a gun, but if you can, use the
knife. NEVER use the MP5's on zombies, wait for bigger baddies.

I know, almost every game I have played has limited the save points. This
makes the game a bit more of a challenge!.....but then I go and get some
cheats to go into my X-plorer so I get all the weapons ;)

I think that the advice about using a knife is crap. No offence to
(e)magius, but seriously, a knife against a zombie is something that I would
try as an experenced player (or if I'm in a stupid mood). As for using a
knife against a dog... why carry an extra (and useless) weapon when the
inventory is limited enough as it is?! Geez, forget the knife altogether.
There's only one RE game where it's needed, and it ain't RE:CV.
Not that I want to sound rude, but have you actually played CV? Almost
everyone here knows the importance of the knife in CV. If you slash at the
legs of the zombies, they go down fast. And ammo is very scarce in the
beginning.
Yah i didn't know what he was talking about when he said he hasn't played
many games with limited saves?!? Some games don't let you save at all (e.x.
Alien vrs. Predator).
Yeah... it's my fav. RE game equal to RE2

I played it a couple of times and I don't ever recall running out of ammo. I
guess I'm too use to playing old-school RE.... ditch the knife in the
nearest chest and don't ever bother getting it back out again.
Then I guess you let most of the zombies live, especially if you're playing old
school. Knifing is usually for those whose need to kill everything in sight
(me). Personally, I think you should be able to punch and kick the zombies,
and if the character has a knife sheath, the knife shouldn't use up inventory
space.
Not nessassarily. I end up killing just about every zombie... I just run
past those monsters with the long stretchy arms.
I recall just about running out of ammo towards the end of the game
though... but then again it's probably because I forget to play
conservativly and go on a rampage with the ammo.
> (me). Personally, I think you should be able to punch and kick the

I totally agree to both suggestions. :)
It would be cool to kick zombies, although punching them probably wouldn't
do very much as they're not subjective to pain. At least with a round-house
kick the impact would knock them over, hence giving one enough time to run
past or put a bullet in their head.
You might as well say that a measly roll of film shouldn't take up as
much room as 99 rounds of shotgun ammunition, but it does. ;)

Lol. Very good point :)
I think I'll use the knife next time in RE:CV at the beginning... that way I
can save ammo for those one armed things.
* Using a green herb recovers one health level.
* Using a blue herb neutralises poison.
* Mixing a red herb with a green one then using the result recovers all
health, as does a first-aid spray.
* If using the shotgun on a group of zombies, aim upwards slightly for
better results.
* Once you've explored a large area of the map, try to find and memorise the
fastest and safest routes back to the typewriters.
* Use the automap, that's what it's there for.
* Don't forget to check suspicious items! You can rotate them whilst in
"Check" mode, and this may reveal their real purpose.
Have fun!

Nope.... not if you're poisoned!
And I don't think the f-aid spray cures poison either. Red, Green and Blue
recovers ALL health!

In RE1 and CV only.

The note's I have added are for RE games IN GENERAL.
If I get something wrong SPECIFICALLY for CV then just "yelp".
There are two Caution levels - yellow and orange, with yellow being closer
to Fine and orange closer to Danger. I remember this specifically from RE3
(just completed it again), but I'm pretty sure it's in the others too.
- Prophet
Yeah. It's in RE2 as well. Many-a-time have I played as Hunk and got an
orange caution.
But I often come across zombies which put me onto yellow caution, but I take
one herb and I STAY on caution..... bit of a git really!

It might have depend on which character your playing. If i remember rightly
some characters such a Hunko are tougher than others. If RE used a hit
point system it'd be easier to tell exactly how much a herb heals you. For
all we know there might be a degree of randomness to how much a herb heals
you.
Let's say that a character had 100 hit points and caution yellow was
somewhere between 50 and 75 if a herb heals say 30 but if could have a
degree pf random so it heals between 25-35.
Or I could just be talking a load of old bollocks? :P
It could just be that you were on the brink of caution yellow from orange
and the single herb only brought you to then brink of caution yellow to
fine green.
They'd make a good series of paints...
"I'd like this room to be painted caution yellow, the bathroom will be fine
green and I think i'll paint the hallway danger red"
:P

Saville
"Chocolate biscuit, cup of tea. That's what Saville said to me."

What would be even more fun would be if they came as wallpaper!
And it just had "Danger" in red, all over the wallpaper, and "Cauton" in
yellow :)
I heard some rumour that if you mix a blue and a green before you add a red
herb, then once you take it, you're invulnerable for like 10 seconds. Can
anyone confirm this? (or shouldn't I ask in case I get another RE4 vs RE:CV
case scenario :| )
Yeah!!! :D
And could have the life sign thingy (i'm sure there's a better word) on it
as well. It'd make a lovely border around the room.
They could even release the wallpaper from the mansion so you could
transform your house in to a mini-spencer-mansion tm.
What would've happened if instead of S.T.A.R.S. being sent to the mansion
it was the Changing Rooms team sent in. The vision of Lawerence Llwelyn
Bowen being decapitated by a hunter brings a smile to my face :) <like this
HAHAHAHAHA
That would be the best video game/TV show crossover ever!
I'm sure someone mentioned this before can't member if it was confirmed or
not. In my experience it's never happened but the best way to find out is
to try it.
I may sound stupid asking this but didn't the blue herb only work if mixed
with a green herb ie you couldn't use it on it's own it's been and I can't
remember.
No green herb needed. There are even planters of only blue herbs that you
can use.
This is OK to ask.....
Yes, people have said that if you mix a red, green and blue herb mix then
you have invincibility for a limited time (How come you don't read most of
the posts to this NG??). We only shortly finished talking about this!
I haven't done it myself...... and I thought it was impossible to mix a blue
and a red, but if it can be done.....
It can't.
Cheers for clearing that up I honestly couldn't remember.
NP, HTH. I should also mention that the planters are not in the first RE
but I believe they are in 2, 3 & CV.
HTH???
Soz but this is new to me, anyone wish to explain?
thanx....
Happy to help
Thanx...

It is impossible. The order I was told is blue and then green and then red.
