I heard that 99% of all games work with Windows XP, so I got it and
installed it....technically the game does work, but it's unplayable because
I'm getting keyboard lag. It's kinda like this.....if I press forward there
is a 2 second delay before my player moves forward, then when I let go of
the key, the player continues to move forward for another 2 seconds. The
mouse controls are good, it's only the keystrokes. Even if I try to type a
message it lags. It lags even in single player mode. I have already
updated Windows and gotten new XP drivers for my keyboard (MS Natural
Keyboard Pro). If anybody has experienced this and found a fix please let
me know. I'm running a P3 1Ghz with a Creative Labs Annihilator Pro
(GeForce DDR). Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried setting compatibility to an earlier OS?

Probably because your newsserver doesn't get all the posts to the group, and
yours was among those "not received". My old newsserver (ISP standard) had
the same problem, so I switched to CIS.DFN.DE.

> Anyways. Thanks for you help....any more suggestion?

Sorry - I don't know fook all about operating systems :)

Hello, i have the same exact problem, with rogue spear, Urban ops, and
Covert ops.
I also tried compatibility mode with win 95, 98, 2000 : same problem.
My keyboard is a classic one.

No problem with others games.
If someone know how to do, it would be very cool.

Thank you.

I have a similar problems with CounterStrike under Windows98SE. I switch
from
D3D to OpenGL rendering and now it is ok. I wonder if it's not a issue with
DirectX8 (Direct Input / D3D part). I've tried to adjust the Direct3D
settings but without any success.

Haven't tried RS/UO... I guess I'll have to :)

Using CS 1.3, DirectX8 (4.08.00.0400), TNT with Asus 11.01c drivers.

Greetings,

Ok I just uninstalled PowerToys and rebooted. Didn't work for me but I
heard it worked for others. This problem seems to be very inconsistent. I
guess I'll just have to wait and see if RedStorm comes out with some sort of
universal patch. Thanks for all your help. If anybody else has any more
info please let me know.

Read the rest of this thread - apparently it's solved by uninstalling
'Powertoys'.

I removed the alt-tab function from the power toys install....that
didn't work. So then I uninstalled all of the PowerToys. Still
having problems.

The key board lag doesn't occur when running in Windows 98
Compatability Mode. I did encounter some problems with Sticky
Keys...some kind of Windows keyboard accessability issue...like
pressing the shift key 5 times etc. This function can be corrected in
the Control Panel.

Okay, I have played with this to death and I can finally say I have
licked the problem.

Indeed, Rogue Spear worked fine on a CLEAN INSTALL of XP. I then
concentrated on FIXING my screwed up install on my regular machine.

PowerToys is definitely a problem but I was determined to MAKE
MICROSOFT do the work instead of Rogue Spear.

I removed Power Torys XP and reloaded. The problem went away. Put them
back, reload. Problems came back. Went to Windows Update and did ALL
THE UPDATES. This did not help.

Okay, back to Windows XP. I decided that if Microsoft claims their
compatibility on XP is so great, they would fix it. I concentrated on
the Compatibility mode feature of XP. I re-installed PowerToys since I
MUST HAVE THOSE ENHANCEMENTS. I have grown too attached to them and
frankly, if one or the other had to go (PowerToys/Rogue Spear) Rogue
Spear would go... I can play it on an older machine under a clean
install or under Me/98.

Go to the START MENU | ALL PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | PROGRAM
COMPATIBILITY WIZARD

From there, do a LIST PROGRAMS and select the RogueSpear.exe file.
Then click on Windows Me/98 as the compatibily mode and click next.
The program will now Launch Rogue Spear and you can test it.

It worked just fine for me. NO MORE STICKY KEYS, and I can keep my
PowerToys.

Ya sticky keys messed me up too .. not sure if it was the same problem, but
I had LShift mapped to be my sniper zoom in/out, and if I hit shift 5x in a
row, RS would minimize itself, and it'd get a lil window about sticky keys
being turned on by hitting Shift 5x. Rather annoying, but once I got rid of
my handicap thingies in XP, it was no longer a problem. I didn't have power
tweak XP installed.

For nostalgic reasons I pulled out an old PC and did a clean install of Windows XP SP3. Installed Rogue Spear and I was having the issue too of a delay with keyboard commands although I do NOT have Power Toys installed so not an issue with me. I, as recommended, changed compatibility to Windows 98 and it worked fine, although there were a few sound glitches here and there.

Oh the memories of playing this game online with friend back in the late 90's wishing there was a way we could talk to each other (we could never get Roger Wilco to work right)...of course it wasn't an issue then because we were all on Windows 98 and by the time XP came out in 2001, we weren't even playing this anymore.

Any holy crap, why did I bring a 16 year old thread back to life. All you folks who were young when this thread was originally posted are almost 20 years older now...i have a weird fascination with time gone by.
