Hey. Robert Duffy of idsoftware just e-mailed me about my last post,
(see Q3A: VM_Create on UI failed). His response was...

You have a PK3 file somewhere that has a different UI in it.

robert...

So now I have a new question. Is there an application that allows you to
automatically search your pk3 files for a certain file? I have hundreds of pk3
files, and it may take some time to filter through them all... I only hope this
is the answer...

Cheers All!

assuming it is another UI causing your problem all you would really have
to do is make a copy of pak3.pk3 and then rename it to something like
zzzpak3.pk3

you do have the latest point release installed right?

tried that, when the map tries to load, I see the grey boxes texture, (meaning
quake 3 arena can't find the textures), and I get thrown back to the game menu...

running point release 1.17

Is there a pk3 browser that automatically searches for a give file within the pk3s?

please! for the love of the vadrigar!

you may just want to try removing groups of extra pk3s out of your
baseq3 dir until you figure out which file is responsible

actually, I have tried that as well, if I join some servers right after loading up
quake 3, then I can join, but If I go to one, then another, I can't join...
weird problem...

My question remains...

Is there a pk3 browser so I can locate files within pk3 files?

a pk3 file is simply a zip file with a ".pk3" extension rather than ".zip".
download winzip at www.winzip.com

yes, thanks for the info oh wise one... The problem is, that I have hundreds of
pk3 files... and probably at least a few of them are causing these problems...

so I ask again...

Is there a program that allows a user to browse pk3 files so I can locate files
within pk3 files??? Like a search engine for pk3 files...

eg) search for ui.qvm in all pk3 files...

ah yes, found in pak2.pk3, pak3.pk3 (those are meant to be in there...) and here's
another one in pleaseanswerthefreakin'question.pk3 That must be the problem...

Still looking for an answer to that question....

Thanks

Winzip- you gotta tell it that .PK3''s are actually ZIP files tho...

The filenames in the zip/pak files are not compressed, so just use windows
"search" function and search all the pak files for the one containing the
file you are looking for.
