what video card are you using? Some aren't compatible with the game. If
it's an nVidia chipset based card (TNT, TNT2, GeForce) you can get drivers
for it at www.nvidia.com. If you have a Voodoo2 or Voodoo3 card, you can
get drivers for it at www.3dfxgamers.com. If you have a card by any other
manufacturer, your best bet would be to download the drivers from their
website.

How much RAM? OpenGL needs a pretty good chunk of RAM, so don't raise
the memory allocation for Q3 above the default unless you have a lot and
turn on virtual memory if you have less than, oh, I guess 128MB.

What OpenGL version did you download? That may not have been a good
thing to do. 9.0.4 should install OpenGL version 1.1.3, but the latest I
see downloadable is 1.1.2, so you may have downgraded.

Well, it should work. Just be sure you have OpenGL 1.1.3 and the latest
video drivers (and be sure the ATI OpenGL Renderer extension is enabled)
and be sure the MacQuake3 app's memory allocation is set to 75000k.

A lot of people raise the memory allocation on Q3 thinking that the app
will perform better having a bigger memory partition to play around in,
but OpenGL needs a lot of memory, too. OpenGL gets its memory from the
system heap, not the application heap, so giving the app more RAM takes
RAM away from OpenGL.

That's about all I can tell you. You are using very standard hardware
for the Mac, so it should work. I use a G3 upgraded Macintosh 8500 with
a Voodoo3 when I'm not playing on my PC (very rarely) and it works fine.
Unfortunately though, between OpenGL setup, the Mac's poor memory
handling, and input sprokets, setting up a Mac for playing games is just
as problematic as setting up a PC, in my opinion.
