How did I see the fps rate in Quake2?

In a place known as alt.games.quake2, Mårten Mellberg

about "Quake2 fps command". Before the men in white coats arrived and
took him away, he managed to say the following:

Type "timedemo 1" in the console, then "map demo1.dm2".

Timerefresh usually gives a quite bad representation of your real FPS,
since there really isn't anything going on when you do that. A
Timedemo gives a better value, though for best results, use the
crusher.dm2, or record a DM game with many players(10+) yourself, and
then use KeyGrip to change the "maxclients" string to 1 so that you
can run a timedemo on the demo...

Wrong News Group. That command is Quake3 not Quake2.
