Organelle is a group of mature, dedicated code and role-playing
engineers who are currently seeking new staff. We run on an in-house
dell p3 450 i686 running Red Hat 6.1 with all the bells. We have our
own, self-managed domain, and are currently developing our staff. We
are all volunteers, sharing a vision of creating something amazing,
supportive, and facinating.
We are building a new generation of online, multiplayer, text-based
roleplaying game. Is it a mud? A moo? We haven't decided, but FRP is
the core.
If you are -really- creative, friendly, committed, and skilled - we'd
like you to consider joining us.
Some of our goals:
Craft and creativity, in service of role-playing: We want to craft code
and worlds that shine, and are a joy to be a part of. Our desire is to
create a platform for the creation and administration of online,
multiplayer, text-based roleplaying games that is clean, easy to use
and learn, but complex and satisfying to play.
People: Our staff is friendly, creative, mature and easy going - and we
get things done.
Some of our Features and Goals:
Detailed scriptable events
Intelligent, active, server-controlled creature-forms
a detailed combat system, including room positions
an elegant player experience, that isnąt spammy
Projects:
We have a variety of projects in process:
Our ŚMordor Modą Project is an ongoing modification of the Mordor 4.61
codebase by Brooke Paul & co. Weąve been working on it and learning
about it for approximately two years. We have implemeted some
interesting test features, and though the orignal codebase is sketchy
in places, it is easy to understand and modify. It is well on the way
to being playable/buildable.
Our custom server: The Organelle server is a project in specification;
it will be object based, and weąll design and code it from scratch. We
are currently working on the sockets and basic database elements.
Setting up our linux server: We have an always on DSL connection at
organelle.org. We are working on getting our DNS up, majordomo and
sendmail, as well as ongoing server-related admin tasks.
What weąre seeking:
Creative, mature coders and builders who are interested in text-based,
mulitplayer interactivity. C and/or C++ expertise, for coders, the
ability to work in a team and about 2 to 4 free hours per week to work
with us on the project. Our server is linux-based, so a basic working
knowledge of the compilation tools and system commands is useful.
We use an RCS code-tracking libarary, coders are required to check in
and check out files.
