The ghost turned into a mongoose on the Maiden's Peak episode. I guess that
counts. Have there been any others?

Okay, this is my count so far.

-Worm that Pidgeotto was eating

-Fish in Misty's sisters' Gym/Aquarium?

-Fish in Nastina's Hotel

-Ghost Mongoose? I don't know if this counts really, but close enough.

Any more?

In AGNP where Pokemon play, Takotchi told us one day:
|Mongoose? When fighting charmander? It was a bear...

When fighting Ekans it was a mongoose.
It was a bear when fighting Koffing.
It was a fire extinguisher when fighting Charmander.

There were some fish in the tank in the Cerulean episode.

It was a bear too? I must've not been looking when that happened. Hm...
now the question is: Are mongeese and bears actual animals in the world of
Pokémon? Seems that's the most likely way Gastly could've patterned himself
after them.

Yeah, I know, I'm looking way too far into this. But it's fun I tell ya ;)

We don't get to see dogs and cats much because Pokemon take the place of
them... Pokemon are much easier to handle. (You just put them in
Pokeballs and take them to the Center for FREE healing! Taxes must be
high in the land of Pokemon.) They can also do neat tricks! (Collect
cash and spit fire.)

We don't see too many animals because the show deals with Pokemon.
Seeing animals that aren't Pokemon would be as relevant as seeing
characters in a TV show read the newspaper with no one around for 10
minutes.

I know that animals exist in the game because they use them to describe
Pokemon. For example, Butterfree's description is "Butterfly," proving
that Butterflies exist. Charmander's is "Lizard," meaning normal lizards
exist. It even mentions a chameleon in the Pokedex description of
Lickitung!

Maybe all animals on the show are just supposed to be different kinds of
pokémon, some just aren't trained for certain reasons.

I believe the setup is that Pokémon are a special variety of animals that
able to be captured in the pokéballs, and have the ability to evolve.
According to the comic, all Pokémon are classified as a single species
themselves.

I thought it was a Mongoose with a gas mask. Koffing attacked with Smoke
Screen right after the mongoose popped up.

Eww... that's wierd. That's like classifying us with all of the other
mammals as one species. So that would mean I could marry a horse.

In real life Pokemon training would be banned anyway, much like
dog-fighting or cock-fighting (at least in the US, I think). Too many
animal activists to actually do something like this.

And I think that dogs and cats and other pets that can do stuff for
you are the only animals smart enough to be real "pokemon".

Those pokemon centers are a real medical breakthrough. If they could
do it on Pokemon, they could do it to humans. (Stick you in a ball and
cure you of cancer). That would be neat.

Actually it was Poison Gas, which Koffing can't learn.

It's "Smoking is Prohibited!"

First Ekans wrapped around whatever it was before and suddenly he was wrapped
around a mongoose which scared the hell out of him. So Jesse told James it
was his turn and he sent Koffing. Then it suddenly became 6' tall or
something (which is why i don't think it was a mongoose anymore) and had a gas
mask. It stepped on Koffing and said "Smoking is prohibited!"

Or something like that.

Nah, it was just a 6 foot tall mongoose. ^_^

YEAH! Now there is a good one! Everyone forgets that humans are part
of the animal kingdom, too. "We're above animals", is the common
mentality. (That would be saying that we're above ourselves, wouldn't
it?)

I'm sure some religious fanatic will disagree with that.

They pray to the moonstone because it's holy to them. It provides
them with an acension into a higher form of life. The only problem
is, the Wigglytuff also consider it holy, and 1000 years ago the
moonstone was stolen from the Wigglytuff, and they were evicted from
the holy land (the Clefairy cave). So now the Wigglytuff warriors are
crusading the reclaim their holy land and holy stone, and the Clefable
warriors are fighting a battle to save their way of life.
