I'm playing Pokemon silver, I've beat all of the first 8 gyms, beat the
Elite Four, and beat 3 of the Kanto Gyms, caught 100 pokemon, including
Lugia, Mew and Celebi. Yesterday afternoon I decided to investigate the
'Rare Candy' gameshark code. It all seemed to work fine but now my Pack is
f*cked :-(
At first I wasn't able to scroll down to 'Cancel' - not a big deal, however
I realised that it had wiped some of my packs contents :-( Then I couldn't
get rid of Rare Candy! So I went to my PC and deposited all my items. Now
when I go to my Pack, I can scroll down 'past' cancel! If I keep going,
Cancel appears a couple of times, and items which are in other pockets
start appearing, plus other items I haven't found and some are just garble
:-(
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone before and whether its
recoverable? I've already started the repetitive and boring task of
copying the Pokemon from my f*cked version to my Gold version so I can
start a New Game on Silver. Sure I'm gonna have to get all the badges
again but at least I can have all my Pokemon back! Does anyone think that
its not worth it? Copying the Pokemon that is, should I just forget it and
start over? I'm pretty dissapointed! I'd got really far and got loads of
Pokemon! Damn my curiosity!
Thanks peeps :-)

You get the fuck out of my newsgroup before you even begin thinking you can

Talk about calling the kettle black :-)

Yeah whatever!
A) I didn't know it was gonna fuck up my game
B) It doesn't fuck up your game if you do it right
C) Shut up dick weed :-)
> You get the fuck out of my newsgroup before you even begin thinking you

Well there we have it, the beauty of the Internet and the Newsgroups -
Freedom! I'm staying, and I couldn't give two fucks whether you created
this newsgroup or not, I'll carry this on as long as you want shagwit. Oh,
and just try and complain to my ISP for using fowl language at you - I
think you'll find you started the abuse :-p
Anyway, I'd like to put something in the defense of those who use Gameshark
carts. Its true that if used incorrectly, it can fuck your game save up.
It should be used properly, and make sure all the instructions and warnings
are read fully. People like our abusive friend here just have a one sided
opinion on people who use cheats, this is not the only way of looking at
it. Especially where the Pokemon games are considered. The only official
way to get Pokemon like Mew or Celebi is to get them from Nintendo when
they do their tours - well not everyone lives in the US or Japan where the
tours are more frequent. I myself live in the UK, I've not ever heard of
these tours to visit the UK yet - if they have then they weren't very well
advertised. Even still, there are others who may never get them in their
country, the smaller countries. This is where the gameshark comes into
use, it gives others the chance to get them when it looked like they may
never. Its not just about gaining a wining edge over your opponent or the
game. I happened to be using the Rare Candy cheat to evolve one of my
Pokemon - sure I could've just worked my way to the evolution but I didn't,
I wanted to get it sooner, it doesn't make me a bad person because of it -
well not in my eyes, only in yours.
Antoher way of looking at it is this, the Gameshark gives you the ability
to tinker with your game. People have always loved tinkering with things,
whether it be opening up electrical appliances, downloading tones & icons
to your phone, experimenting with DivX, upgrading your PC - whatever,
people love doing it and sometimes regardless of the risks which may be
involved. Its because people love to have a sense of adventure.
I'd like to ask whether you'd be against using the Flash Cables and Carts?
Because if you are, I bet the first thing you'd think is that people are
using it to download copyright ROMS and play them. Well this isn't true
for everyone - personally I don't own one, I'm thinking of geting oen for
the GBA, but not because I want to pirate games, I want to be able to
backup my saves so that if anything does happen i.e. geting corrupt saves,
broken cart etc. then I can revert back to my save.
Bottom line - I couldn't care less what you think or what you want to call
me because I've used the Gameshark. So what! I'll even add that I've
restarted my Silver game and am now using the infinite master ball and the
infinite rare candy cheat to get back to where I was as quick as possible.
So forget it, I'm not bothered about what you previous judgement on me was
- I couldn't care less. But if your so high and mighty, if your gonna
carry this on, make petty remarks and hurl abuse at me - then I'm ready,
I'll give back as much as your gonna dish. If this is the kind of
newsgroup you hoped for then go for it.
So its down to you.
I'd just like to point out that profanity isn't illegal on Usenet, nor
is it a violation of ToS

Hi, I'm not a signature virus. Why don't you just copy me into your
signature?

lessee...the youngest on here is the Sapphire Celebi...at 13...and I
don' think she's ever complained about language.
You can't tell people to censor their thoughts. Parents know there is
cursing on the internet, and a lot worse...so when letting their kids
use the computer, especially unsupervised, and not using any kind of
netnanny, or filter, or anything...well there's nothing to complain
about then. There are such things as filters in newsreaders, so any post
I swear in won't even show up on their reader.
so Nyah.

Heck, I was using worse than what I've seen here when I was 10...

Never said they should censor their thoughts...
But any "discussion" had broken down to "Fuck You" "No, Fuck You" and that
gets old.
=]
this is true.
avoiding meaningless discussion, however, would remove all posts from
this froup ;)
now we can't have that can we......
my point exactly ;)

I don't personally own a Gameshark, but I do believe that the documentation
tells you clearly that changing the programming of a game is going to
produce unwanted effects.

So you're not only a cheater, you are incompetant, is that what you are
saying?

I live in New Zealand, which is even more out of the way. At one point I
had six legal Mews.
We don't get any tours or even Nintendo sanctioned tournaments.

Like New Zealand.

I do believe "Hey I have two Pokemon you can't get" counts as a winning
edge, especially when they are ones as utilitarian as Mew and have good
stats.

No, it makes you lazy. All you have to do is grab a Lucky Egg and piggy
back a little through the E4 - Bang, money, experience and evolved Pokemon.
Unless you were evolving something like a Tyranitar and Dragonite who take
fucking ages to evolve, but if you are doing that you may as well just train
one.

Yeah, I can imagine how Uber-1337 I would be if I altered all my tanks in
Red Alert to look like bouncing bunnies that couldn't be killed.

Like fucking your game up.

Frankly I've never heard of them.

I believe MegaMemory carts serve that function, but eh.
The shame is a lot of people abuse it to clone Pokemon, not implying you
would, but that's the view on it.

Except I can't see how you would possibly need either, you Pokedex isn't
that important - I know people who have done 400 hours on their game and
they have below 100 on their caught section. It's still cheating because
you are bypassing the effort and time it takes someone else to do that.
I know where you are coming from, because my game deleted itself entirely
last year after some guy turned his off too quickly during a tournament
match. I had over 30 level 100's and it was crushing for my drive to play
the game.
But I didn't use a gameshark to accelerate it.
> So forget it, I'm not bothered about what you previous judgement on me was

And that explains this huge treatise how?
