NWN2 original campaign - help!

someone can help me. After the tutorial and the battle in the village,
when the "foster father" Daeghun instructs the player to go find a
shard he'd hidden in the swamp ruins... well, I've got the shard
(silver shard) and returned, but all Daeghun says is "Why have you come
back empty-handed?"
I've gone through the swamp/ruins three times now and I always come
back to this same frustrating result. Have I missed something? Did a
trigger not go off? I can't figure it out. Any help appreciated. TIA!

Sounds like something's gone astray. Unfortunately, the usual advice for
this sort of thing is
have you updated to the latest patch?
And,
play from an earlier save and see if the event triggers properly this time.
I think you can jump forward using a console command but bugs like this are,
at least according to the game boards, a sign of deeper problems.
Did you ask Bevil to go back to the village or did you walk there?

Thanks for your reply Maxon.
I talked with Bevil over and over and never had any options presented
to me so I naturally walked back. I did download the latest patch,
though. It's apparently an issue on the forums and they said
essentially what you told me. The latest patch fixed it. Again, thanks
for your prompt and helpful reply.
(Now if only I could get my chase/topdown cams back!) =-)

I struggled with that too. I eventually settled for turning off the
automatic turn with the cursor at the edge of the screen (I use the arrow
keys) and change the angle with the mouse wheel. Not as easy as it was with
the first game. Apparently there is a fix you can try but I've learnt to
use it now.
Oh, someone sent me this - I haven't tried it.
Patch 1.10 and MotB
Camera Edge Scrolling Settings for mouse:
In Character Mode:
Check: Turn Camera on hitting edge of screen is on
In Strategy Mode:
Control:
Check: Turn Camera on hitting edge of screen is on
Check: Scroll Camera on hitting edge of screen is on
Camera Focus:
Check: Directly on controlled character is on. This one is bold
because it seems to be the one detail folks seem to miss.
Note: After making the changes, switch back and forth between
Strategy Mode and Character Mode using the * key on the numeric
keypad to make sure your settings were saved.
Camera Speed Settings:
I did a little testing on my own game and made some changes that give
me better speed control over the screen edge scrolling and mousewheel
zoom speeds, which worked well for my system.
Find your nwn2player.ini file in your My Documents\Neverwinter Nights
2 folder.
Make a backup first!
Make a backup of your nwn2player.ini file and store it in a safe
place (simply copy it to another folder). Then, In your
nwn2player.ini file, make the following changes:
Under Character Mode Options
Change
Edge_Turn_Min=3.000000
to
Edge_Turn_Min=1.000000
Under Strategy Mode Options:
Change
Mousewheel_Speed_Min=11.000000
To
Mousewheel_Speed_Min=1.000000
Change
Edge_Turn_Min=3.000000
To
Edge_Turn_Min=1.000000
Once you make those changes, save the file and try it. You will
likely have to go into Options menu and re-adjust your speeds. I hope
