How much HD space to reinstall?

Hi folks!

On the off chance that anyone still checks this NG, I have a question. <g>

I recently had a HD crash and now have a brand new one.
Yes, I had backups, but somehow I can no longer find any of my NWN files.

I know, I know. All those years of accumulated files, saved games,
characters,
all gone. [sigh] Even though I may eventually find them again someday,
I was thinking of reinstalling everything from scratch. I realize that it's
going to
take time and patience, but it'll be worth it. I even found my Original
boxed set
(all 3 with serial numbers) from the year 1, and I know there's gonna be a
ton
of updates as well.

So, my question is this: Can anyone estimate approximately how much HD space
it will take to reinstall all 3 (NWN, SoU, HoU) plus the latest CEP?

I need to know which drive/partition to choose, depending on space.
Thanks in advance!!

My NWN2 installation, with MotB, MoW, and SoZ and the latest patches takes
up just under 11.5 GB.

You'll find conflicting sets of instructions on how to do a reinstall these
days. What worked for me two months ago was to install the OC, MotB, and
SoZ one after the other and only then run the online updater. YMMV!

Best,
Mark.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for replying! Good to know this NG is still alive. <g>

I tried NWN2 once for about an hour, just couldn't get into it.
Uninstalled it and never looked back.

My question was really about good'ol NWN "1", the Original.
Your advice is still good though, I had planned to install all 3
and *then* do the updates afterwards.

So...if your total install was under 12 Gb, then I'll be fine!
Thanks again!!

Sorry, I misunderstood. My NWN 1 installation, with both updates and the CEP
clocks in at 9.12 GB.

With the size of modern drives, I'm surprised space is an issue :)
I have tons of saved games and such.

My biggest fear is that I'll suffer a crash and lose all the modules, then find out the NWN Vault is no longer available... Probably will happen right around the time I retire and find myself with all kinds of spare time to replay my favorite mods.

I hope someone puts together a NWN1 equivalent - lightweight and easy to mod. NWN2 didn't do much for me, either. Drudged through the OC, started MotB but got bored, about 3/4 of the way through SoZ from what I can tell.

There's still a very few people doing NWN 1 mods.... I hope someday, people that left without finishing their series come back

Hi Jack!

My new HD is only 500 GB and I have it partitioned 50/50, Windows (C) and
Data (D).
I just wasn't sure which drive to install to, since it was originally done
SO long ago.

Oh, and I agree with everything you said! :-)

Hi, Neil,
I have the same setup (500 gb drive, 2 partitions)
:)

I finally grabbed a copy of NWN2/SoZ and like Mark said elsewhere,
there are a few good mods for NWN2 - Misery
Stone, the Red Prison, Harp & Chrysanthemum are a few I've played.

My only complaint is that there are few, and they tend to be
relatively short, especially for their file download size. Up until
DSL became available in our area, these would be complete no-go for
downloading, as with our previous satellite connection, we were
limited to 5 gb in a 30 day period

Once I finish the SoZ campaign and a few other NWN2 mods, looks like I
will end up going back to NWN 1 to either replay mods for find a mod
that I somehow missed earlier
