Does anyone happen to have or know where I can obtain the original portrait
el_f_01 . This is the portrait changed in the latest version of NWN. I
happen to like the original much better than the replacement.

Same here, liked the original much better.

Actually, the original portraits are still there, but they get overriden by the
new ones.
If you would like to use them you can open your 2da file and extract them.

I started a thread in the "Custom Content" forum a while ago on the same

Thanks, I took a look a the thread. Seems a lot of people are interested.
I suspect either Hasbro or Atari legal departments wanted to remove any
