OK. I got HOU this weekend and planed to start with my Lvl 16 cleric
that I played thru NWN. However, I was testing the pre-made
characters and when I played the lvl 15 druid, I noticed that she was
much better in combat than the cleric. The Dex are the same, 14, so I
am unclear what is the reason for this.

I ask as I want to buff up the cleric's combat skills and I need to
know what is needed to make her a worthwhile player in close combat.
Eg. what do I need to add to skills., feats, etc.?

Thanks

Just comparing the DEX doesn't tell you anything about combat ability.
If you can give us a run-down of both characters, we would provide
more info. First, STR determines ability to hit and damage done, not
DEX. Also, there could be weapon/armor differences. The cleric can
wear heavier armor, so unless you have some really good leather armor,
your cleric should get hit less often in combat. As for melee feats,
you need Power Attack (pre-req) and Cleave and then appropriate Weapon
Focus, Improved Critical, etc. Spells will be important for buffing
your character for melee combat: Stoneskin, Bulls Strength, etc.
There really aren't any skills that are helpful specifically for melee
combat ... Parry is useless, especially for a cleric in heavy armor.
For a cleric, you want Concentration for sure.

That should get you started. Post more details if you want more
info/analysis on your current characters.

Except when using ranged weapons, when it is dex that is brought into play.

Except when the Weapon Finesse feat is chosen, and Dex is higher then Str,
and certain light weapons are involved.

(This is like the rule for Leap Years.)

<sigh> Yeah, forgot about that. Still, my guess is that the
characters in question rely more on the STR attribute than DEX,
especially as a DEX-based cleric wouldn't be the greatest of ideas.
If you really want ranged combat with these classes, you're probably
better off taking Zen Archery.

'Course, if I had read closer I would have noted that he used the
pre-gen characters, so I could have looked up the stats myself and
commented, but that's too much like work.
